Description (EN):

The social inclusion of the Roma population largely depends on education. Many Roma children don’t attend primary education, mainly due to their low socioeconomic status, limited access to schools and a high rate of unfounded channelling of Roma children into special education. The overall aim of the project was to raise the amount of Roma children in primary schools, decrease the number of drop-outs and to ensure conditions for increasing educational levels of Roma people in the region. The main objective of this project was to equip teachers and Roma school mediators/assistants with the necessary skills and knowledge to work with Roma children, and to exchange good practices among Slovenia, Romania and Serbia. Within the project RomaEdu-Danube, teachers and Roma school mediators/assistants were trained in Slovenia, Serbia and Romania. Training plans were elaborated and implemented in the three countries, and the results were evaluated and presented at a final conference in Romania.
