Language criterion in Projects and documents. How different is it from the language criterion in text search?

There are two different language filters, or criteria, in project-search. Free text language selection applies only to the text entered into the text search bar. On the other hand, the option to ‘search data in a specific language(s) only’ applies to the languages in which users can opt to see project data.

An example may convey better the difference between the two criteria. So users can opt to look within the keep.eu database for the phrase ‘maritime’ in French only (they write ‘maritime’ in the text bar and select French in ‘Languages to include in the text search’). However, they might also want to see projects with fields in English only. If this is the case, they select English in ‘Search data in specific language(s) only’. They can use these two criteria in tandem and get actual search results.

Limitations of language criteria: In the cases of fields with only a few words, it is extremely difficult for the software to distinguish languages, and is therefore prone to error. For example, if a project is named keep.eu, what is the language of this name? Please use language selection only as a means to find the projects that you need. These filters do not make way for any extrapolation on the use of languages in the database.
