Correction of broken links
This page was last updated on 2026-05-28
Keep.eu contains links to programme, project, partner, and document information. Over time, some of these links may stop working because websites are reorganised, pages are removed, documents are moved, or external systems change.
The purpose of this workflow is to identify wrong or outdated links in keep.eu and correct or remove them where necessary.
This process helps ensure that users can access reliable information from keep.eu and that broken links do not weaken the usability of programme, project, and document data.
How does this work?
The workflow follows a monthly cycle.
A list containing URL validity check results in keep.eu is received on Fridays. This list identifies links that may no longer work.
The results are then reviewed manually. In the further procedure, programme URLs and document URLs are verified.
If a programme or document URL is confirmed as broken, it is corrected or deleted, depending on the type of link and the programming period concerned.
Which URLs are reviewed?
The URL validity check includes four entity types:
- Programmes;
- Projects;
- Partnerships;
- Documents.
However, in the current workflow, only programme URLs and document URLs are verified further.
Why is this important?
Broken links reduce the usefulness of keep.eu because they may prevent users from accessing programme websites, project documentation, or project outputs.
This workflow therefore helps maintain:
- The reliability of keep.eu;
- Access to relevant external information;
- The usability of project output documents;
- And the quality of the user experience.
Operational limitations
The URL validity check may identify links that appear invalid but are not necessarily wrong or outdated. Some websites may block automated checks, temporarily fail to respond, or return response codes that do not indicate an actual broken link. This is why manual verification remains necessary.
The workflow therefore combines:
- Automatic URL validity checking;
- Manual verification;
- Dataflow discussion where needed;
- And manual correction or deletion.
