Description (DE):

Das Projekt verfolgt das Ziel, Recyclingquoten von Pflanzennährstoffen, Stickstoff (N), Phosphor (P) und Kalium (K), zu erhöhen. P und K sind limitierte, endliche Resourcen und die Production von N-Düngern ist energieaufwändig. Obwohl Rückgewinnungstechnologien entwickelt wurden, ist die Anwendung der Dünger durch Landwirte derzeit nicht verbeitet. Die Marktbarrieren werden mit diesem Projekt abgebaut. Ausgewählte Länder sind IE-UK, DE-NL, BE-FR. Innerhalb dieser werden Grenzregionen mit Nährstoffmangel und –überschuss identifiziert. Möglichkeit zum Austausch von Nährstoffen zwischen diesen Regionen werden analysiert und Produzent-Konsument Verbindungen werden aufgebaut. Upcycling von Nährstoffen in Ueberschussregionen zum Erreichen von Mineraldüngerqualität (durch Bedürfnisse von Landwirten definiert) wird die Nachfrage in Mangelregionen in NWE erhöhen. Durch die Etablierung von transnationalen Märkten sowie durch Handlungsempfehlungen an die Politik, werden Marktbarrieren abgebaut. Dadurch reduzieren sich zum Ende des Projekts Mengen an Mineraldünger (- 54,000t N, 4,000t P, -60,000t K in Dünger). Die 3 grössten Reststoffströme (Klärschlamm, Bioabfall, Gülle) werden beruecksichtigt und in Kooperation zwischen Unternehmen und Wissenschaft koennen 20 Duengeproduzenten, 17 Recycling-Duengemittel an agronomische Ansprueche anpassen und verbessern. Durch die Etablierung von transnationalen Handelsketten bringen 20 Unternehmen neue Produkte in den Markt. Durch Bottom-up Kooperation mit Landwirten erhalten 8 landwirtschaftliche Unternehmen Training im Rahmen der Felddemonstrationen. Das demonstrierte Know How wird durch Mitglieder von 10 Landwirtschaftsverbaenden aufgenommen. Wissenstransfer und die Etablierung der Handelsketten erreicht Reduzierung von Mineralduengermengen. Durch Stakeholder-Kommunikation (Produzenten und Landwirte) (Zeitschriften, Internet, Workshops) werden 2% (-108,000 t N, -8,000t P, -120,000t K) der derzeitigen Mineraldüngermenge nach 5 und 6% (-324,000t N, 24,000t P, 360,000t K) nach 10 Jahren durch Recycling-Dünger ersetzt werden. Kooperation mit Branchenorganisationen sichert langfristige Implementierung.

Description (FR):

Le projet a pour objectif d’augmenter le taux de recyclage des nutriments des plantes (l’azote (N), le Phosphore (P) et le Potassium (K)). P et K représentent des ressources limitées, la production d’engrais azotés est énergivore. Malgré le développement de technologies de traitement, l’utilisation par les agriculteurs reste très limitée. Le projet permettra de supprimer les principaux freins à cet usage limité. Les pays concernés par le projet sont IE-UK, DE-NL et BE-FR. Au sein de ces pays, des régions présentent des ressources limitées en nutriments et d’autres en excédent. Les possibilités d’échanges en nutriments entre les régions seront explorées, et une collaboration entre producteurs et utilisateurs finaux sera initiée. Le recyclage des nutriments en fertilisants minéraux, de qualité pertinente pour les agriculteurs, dans les régions en excédent va créer une demande dans les autres régions. En développant des chaînes de commercialisation transnationales et une politique de conseil, les barrières commerciales seront réduites. Cela aboutira au remplacement des quantités d’engrais minéraux par des produits dérivés du recyclage dès la fin du projet (-54,000 t N, -4,000 t P, -60,000 t K). Les trois plus importantes filières de déchets (boues d’épuration, déchets alimentaires et lisiers) seront étudiées selon un processus de suivi collaboratif public – privé, avec 20 producteurs qui travailleront sur l’amélioration des propriétés de 17 produits fertilisants issus du recyclage en fonction des besoins des utilisateurs finaux. Le développement de nouvelles chaînes de commercialisation facilitera l’accès aux marchés transnationaux de 20 entreprises produisant des fertilisants issus du recyclage. Dans une approche ascendante en coopération avec les agriculteurs, 8 exploitations accueilleront des parcelles de démonstration, de formation, et de transfert de connaissance au travers d’évènements de démonstration à l’attention des membres de 10 organisations de producteurs. Les freins à l’utilisation des nouveaux fertilisants seront levés, et avec le développement de 20 chaînes de commercialisation transfrontaliés, l’usage de nutriments issus de la matière première brute sera réduit. Grâce à une communication vers les parties prenantes (revues, internet, séminaires) 2% (-108,000 t N, -8,000t P, -120,000t K) des fertilisants minéraux seront remplacés par des produits issus du recyclage après 5 ans et 6% (-324,000t N, 24,000t P, 360,000t K) après 10 ans. Les organisations professionnelles (partenaires associés) s’assureront de cette mise en œuvre.

Description (EN):

The project aims at increasing recycling rates of the plant nutrients Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P) and Potassium (K). P and K are limited and finite resources, and production of N fertilizers is energy intensive. Despite recovery technologies having been developed, the use of recycling-derived fertilizer products by farmers is limited until now. The barriers for the limited use will be overcome. Selected countries are IE-UK, DE-NL and BE-FR. Within these countries, regions with nutrient shortage and surplus can be distinguished. Possibilities for exchange of recycled nutrients between regions will be explored and producer-consumer collaboration developed. Upcycling nutrients in surplus regions to mineral fertilizer quality (according to farmers’ needs) will create demand in nutrient-demand regions in NWE. By developing transnational markets and by communicating policy advice, market barriers will be reduced. This will result in replacing mineral fertilizer amounts with recycling-derived products by the end of the project (-54,000 t N, -4,000 t P, -60,000 t K). The 3 largest waste streams (sewage sludge, food waste and manure) will be considered and in an enterprise-academia cooperative monitoring processes, 20 producers will succeed to improve 17 recycling-derived fertiliser products; properties according to end-user needs. Development of transnational trade chains will facilitate 20 enterprises to introduce new-to market recycling fertiliser products. In bottom-up cooperation with farmers, 8 farm enterprises will host demo fields and thus receive training. The knowledge transfer extents with demo events to members of 10 farmers’ organizations. Farmers knowledge lack barrier is decreased and with transnational trade chains being developed, raw material nutrient use decreases.Due to communication to stakeholders (producers and farmers) (publications in magazines/ internet; workshops) 2% (-108,000 t N, -8,000t P, -120,000t K) of mineral fertilizer amounts will be replaced with recycling-derived products after 5 yrs and 6% (-324,000t N, 24,000t P, 360,000t K) after 10 yrs. Farmers’ organizations and fertiliser producer branch organisations as associate partners ensure long term implementation.

Expected Outputs (EN):

Currently, in the NWE countries together there are still 5, 400,000 t of N, 400,000t of P and 6,000,000t K as mineral fertilizer (nearly 100% imported) applied to agricultural fields. These volumes can potentially be replaced with recycled nutrients. Less than 5% of the currently applied fertilizer is recycling-derived.
