Description (EN):

The project HERCULTOUR is capitalizing the IPA Adriatic HERA project and is aimed at supporting the sustainable tourism approach, mitigating high seasonality pressure by improving the offer for integrated destination management and development of rural tourism while exploiting the preserved joint cultural assets. Thus the activities foresee the setting up of the HERA Adriatic Heritages Association for management and promotion of sustainable tourism based on common cultural heritage.

Achievements (EN):

The goal of the project is to enhance and preserve cultural and historical diversities of these countries, and to create a joint tourism offer in different areas. In order to reach the specific objective “Raising capacities for joint tourism management” an activity plan for HERA Adriatic Heritages Association has been elaborated and HERA Association was successfully established with its Statute and several founding members, in order to safeguard certification and other procedures developed within project HERA in the long run and thus to ensure sustainability. For the activities of strengthening of existing HERA-certified products, operating plans for 5 existing products were drafted by all 3 Croatian partners in order to enable involved partners to sustainably manage their products; Scientific Committee for developing International Cultural Tourism Route - the European way of Roman Theatres, Amphitheatres and Forums in Europe" - “Adriatica Romana" is established and three Scientific Committee Meetings are held where all appointed experts participated and gave their contribution. Local stakeholder roundtables in all involved territories were organized where the idea of International Cultural Tourism Route has been presented and promoted. The development of a brand new Visitors’ Centre in Teramo for creating a friendly and immersive environment, open to public’s and operators’ fruition, while valorizing the local cultural and natural heritage was established.

Expected Results (EN):

The third SO of project HERCULTOUR is "to verify HERA procedure for certification of International Cultural Tourism Routes and confirm HERA procedure for certification of Visitor Centres". It directly follows the realization of all activities foreseen in WP5 "Pilot projects: Developing new products for HERA certification", or, more precisely, the implementation of final Activity 5.3 "HERA certification of newly developed products", where new products, i.e. International Cultural Tourism Route and Visitor Centre, will be certified by HERA Adriatic Heritages Association after having satisfied all the requirements set forth in Rules for Recognition elaborated in previous project HERA. HERA regulations for International Cultural Tourism Routes have not been tested before, thus they need to be verified in HERCULTOUR. Before the HERA certification process can take place, in Activity 5.1 "Developing International Cultural Tourism Route", "The European way of Roman Theatres, Amphitheatres and Forums in Europe" International Cultural Tourism Route, and in Activity 5.2 "Developing Visitor Centres", new Visitor Centre in Teramo, shall both be developed while observing the rules set forth in aforementioned Rules for HERA Recognition.

Expected Outputs (EN):

- 7 Heritage Interpretation workshops. - 5 Operating plans developed for existing HERA-certified products. - 9 Local promotional campaigns for existing HERA-certified products. - 6 Existing HERA-certified products improved. - 1 International cultural tourism route. - 1 Visitor centre developed. - 1 International Cultural Tourism Route focusing on Roman heritage. - 2 New products certified according to HERA standards.
