Description (EN):

The project partners set themselves the aim of increasing the standard of living conditions of the inhabitants and the level of economic development of the region, based on the use of the potential of historical and natural heritage in tourism. Thanks to the implemented project, the beneficiaries modernised two places with great tourist potential, located in Giżycko and in Sovetsk. On the Polish side of the border, a part of the Carnot wall was renovated (a fragment of the Boyen Fortress in Giżycko from the Giżycko Gate to the corner of the Leopold and Ludwig bastions) as well as the park lighting system was installed along its parts. A cycling path was also built around the Boyen Fortress with a length of 5.6 km. On the Russian side, activities include the creation of a recreation and tourist complex in a lakeside park with a 3.93 km-long walking and cycling path around the city lake with additional elements, such as: lighting, parking lots for bicycles, platforms, small architecture objects or a repair point for bicycles. Within the promotional activities there was foreseen to organise two bicycle rallies - in Giżycko and in Sovetsk as well as information and promotion campaign.

Expected Results (EN):

The indicator will be monitored on the basis of reports and own statistics of beneficiaries. Thanks to the reconstruction of the historical heritage objects and cultural sites , creation the new tourist products and organization of a series of events, Partners created the possibility of getting to know and maintain historical and natural heritage with cultural sites. App 5% annual growth of visitors is expected. Base value in 2017 equalled to 75 186 visitors in PL and 29 814 visitors in RU. Target value shows app. 5% growth of 5300 visitors (3800 in PL and 1500 in RU). Assumed visitors' growth is calculated basing on the annual visitors's reports of the Boyen Fortress -PL, and monitoring data (museum, hotels, tourist information center of Sovetsk, travel agency Yantarny Veter) - RU.

Expected Outputs (EN): Number of cross-border cultural events organised using the Programme support – 2; Number of improved cultural, historical touristic and natural sites as a direct consequence of programme support – 3.
