The project aims at addressing challenges that are common in many countries of the Baltic region: increasing the competitiveness of the artists involved in the Performing Arts sector by on the one hand developing their entrepreneurial behavior, attitudes and skills and on the other hand by helping them test and learn new professional/artistic strategies, gaining confidence and becoming more articulate and creative by supporting synergetic transsectoral collaboration. The two project partners - Estonian theatre organisation Foundation Vaba Lava and New Theatre Institute of Latvia - collaborate with an aim to raise the entrepreneurial spirit of theatre professionals and to explore and introduce new models of arts and business collaboration. During two-year period a lot of trainings will be organised in Estonia and Latvia both for local and for joint audiences. The best professionals both from each country and from other Nordic countries will be invited to give lectures and share their skills. Several practical activities, specialised training courses, shadowings and working periods with mentors will be implemented. The new concept of artistic interventions will be studied with two Nordic experts during a 9-month period and 10 new process leaders in artistic interventions will be trained. Special attention will be turned to communication activities in using different kind of media and promotion channels for achieving the target groups which usually do not cooperate much - theatre professionals/freelancer artists/small theatres with business leaders and company owners, decision makers in municpalities and other organisations. All the project outcomes and publications will be downloaded to the project website The project experiences will be followed up during the final conference in Tallinn in April 2017.

Achievements (EN):

Raising competitiveness of freelance artists and independent companies - Theatre Expanded: During the project the two project partners, Estonian theatre organisation Foundation Vaba Lava and New Theatre Institute of Latvia, collaborated with an aim to raise the entrepreneurial spirit of theatre professionals and to explore and introduce new models of arts and business collaboration. Many trainings were organised in Estonia and Latvia both for local and joint audiences with theatre professionals. More than 600 people in Estonia and in Latvia attended different kind of seminars, training courses, shadowing processes, working periods with mentors and the final conference. The new concept of artistic interventions was studied and practically implemented in both countries with the help of experts from Finland and Germany. During a 9-month period 5 (EST) and 11 (LV) new process leaders in artistic interventions were trained. In Estonia one new company was created by theatre professionals with an aims to use innovative ideas in theatre production and to promote young theatre professionals in home country and abroad. Two publications were created for theatre producers and professionals. The project ended with the two-day international conference in Tallinn targeted researching future of performing arts.

The project outcome will facilitate creation of new networks and strenghtening ties between communities. Indirectly, the project has a much larger impact apart from the Performing Arts sector, such as businesses, local governments and other organisations.Main results-strong and sustainable independent performing arts scene in Latvia and Estonia;-stronger regional collaboration, especially between Latvia and Estonia;-more theatre managers working professionally on the independent theatre scene;-more artists being able to work independently and to live from their professional work;-strong, mutually beneficial, balanced cross-sectoral collaboration: arts and businesses, arts and educational, social, research institutions;-high value of art in societyNumerical indicators:100 participants from Latvia and 100 from Estonia attend training sessions/ workshops/ workgroups10-15 participants engaged in trainings designed specifically for producers100 participants attend the conference10 participants take part in trainings on artistic intervention in organisations10 businesses and public organisations have been involved in projects on artistic intervention the events have received media coverage.The qualification acquired during the training sessions will help the participants after completing the course to have better job opportunities and better income in the future, including an offer to produce theatre and dance projects at Vaba Lava.Estonia: We expect around 10 qualified producers to be employed with various projects either permanently or temporarily either at Vaba Lava or with independent companies elsewhere. (There are more than 30 independent companies and project theatres in Estonia.) Latvia: around 10 producers will be qualified to produce theatre projects both locally and internationally (international co-productions).
