Description (EN):

Tell me about it (TELL) -stories building belonging and democratic integration -project is targeted on the challenge of strengthen social inclusion of Central Baltic region. It tackles the challenges related to participation in and access to labourmarket and the challenges related to minorities and immigrants. The project promotes young immigrants’ integration and aims at preventing youth exclusion. The project is targeted on young immigrants in Central Baltic region (aged 16-29) in Kotka and Uppsala. The project organizes workshops using cultural and artistic story-making process in Finland and in Sweden. The workshops will utilize cultural and artistic methods and Human rights and democracy –game. The workhops will be conducted by Xamk in cooperation with external expert and Folkuniversitetet. The main outputs are the stories of success factors in integration processes of young immigrants. The stories will be collected with culture and art based methods in Sweden and Finland. The methods will be evaluated and shared. Stories building belonging and integration are disseminated cultural products and presentations: theatre performance, rap lyrics, comics or videos. The success factors of integration processes will be analysed, published and disseminated in the communities. The story-making processes improve young immigrants’ self-expression and skills of re-engaging the society as well as mutual understanding and building transcultural trust. The social capital resulted from the project also improves young immigrants participation in the employment and abilities to education. Strengthening the bonding ties to society improve young immigrants’ possibilities and social capital as well as the communities’ resilience.

Achievements (EN):

TELL improved social inclusion among young immigrants: During its implementation, the TELL project organised workshops for young immigrants aged between 16-29. These workshops focused on storytelling or using a game called Human rights and democracy. In storytelling workshops, successful integration stories were shared using narrative methods, whereas the game-focused workshops aimed to evoke discussions about different rules, rights and manners of a new country. The latter deployed cultural and artistic methods. Additionally to project target groups, the methodology was partly tested through information exchange between project partners. Throughout implementation, positive stories of belonging and engaging in the society as well as mutual understanding and building transcultural trust, were emphasised. In total, 90 young immigrants participated in project activities.

Expected Results (EN): R4.1. Communities with improvements

Expected Outputs (EN):

The main result of the TELL-project is preventing the marginalisation. The social exclusion will be prevented by the actions of TELL- project which build and strenghten the communities of Kotka and Uppsala. Both these areas are facing challenges of the integration processes of young immigrants and increasing amount of NEETs with immigrant background. The TELL-project improves the situation of this vulnerable group. TELL-project brings people together and streghten the bonding ties of the communities in Kotka and Uppsala area. The project strenghtens the social capital of the participants and it improves their possibilities to employment and education. The outcome are the stories of success factors in integration processes of young immigrants. The story-making processes improve the social capital as well as mutual understanding and building transcultural trust. Stories building belonging and democratic integration are disseminated cultural products and presentations: theatre performance, rap lyrics, comics or videos. These cultural products will be disseminated in the communities of Kotka and Uppsala as well as publications to wider audience.
