At present, the level of development in both localities of bicycle paths is almost non-existent due to the safety, health and travel times of the inhabitants of the partner localities. At cross-border transport, the share of bicycle use is below 1%, meaning insignificant, while the share of car users is overwhelming. Neither the level of use of public transport is satisfactory. Based on these needs, it has been found useful to combine bicycle transport with public transportation to lower the share of private car use, especially in warmer times.The present project aims to reduce the level of noxes generated by the ways of transport in the Socodor - Ketegyhaza transfontalier area by arranging 10,955 km of bicycle tracks, 6,328 km in Socodor and 4,627 km in Ketegyhaza that are linked by public transport and by the joint rental service bikes set up as part of the project.In order to increase the use of bicycles and public transport means, bicycle parking facilities will be provided in the vicinity of public transport stations that cross-border the partner localities, in such a way that travelers wishing to move between partner localities feel comfortable by combining transport together with the availability of bicycles both in the starting and the destination town.Thus, the project, in an innovative manner, identifies the means by which the level of emissions for cross-border transport also decreases for border settlements other than those that are actually stuck together at only a few border crossing points between Romania and Hungary.Thus, the approach of cross-border transport within the project, by combining bicycle transport, will reduce the share of those using personal cars. In order to ensure the attractiveness of the proposed system for the inhabitants of the two localities, investments were made in the bicycle tracks, in the bus stations provided with supervised races, and by providing, under certain conditions, free bikes.

Achievements (EN):

The ROHU-128 project aimed to build 11.02 km of cycle paths in the Socodor-Kétegyháza cross-border area to reduce emissions from transport. The main activities implemented within the project: building 11,02 km of bicycle track in Socodor (8.94 km) and Kétegyháza (2.08 km); renovating 6 bus stations in Socodor, as part of the new green transportation system set up in the frame of the project; setting up a combined bicycle track/ public transportation system between Socodor and Kétegyháza; purchasing 60 bicycles as part of the new green transportation system, and setting up 2 bicycle maintenance stations; organizing 2 cycling competitions, in Socodor and in Kétegyháza, in order to ensure the promotion of the bicycle transportation system set up within the project; establishing a common regulation framework for the alternative cross-border green transport system, to support the increase in the use of bicycles as a means of transport. On April 30, 2022, the project was successfully finalized. All activities provided in the project were completed (100%). The Programme Output Indicator is „7/c 2 Total length of newly built bicycle roads”. Project ROHU – 128 contributes to the fulfilment of this indicator by 11.02 km of bicycle tracks built in Kétegyháza (HU) and Socodor (RO) until the end of the implementation period. The project’s main results are: - 11.02 km of new bicycle track in the 2 localities, connected to public transport, - bicycle workshops in both localities, - active support for residents with 30 bicycles for Socodor and 30 bicycles for Ketegyhaza, including 4+4 tricycles for the elderly or disabled, - cycling competitions attended by 250 participants to promote bicycling. Expected Outputs (EN):

The rate of increase in the use of public transport and bicycles for cross-border transport needs. Number of people using public transport and bicycles. Indicators at the beginning of the project and at the end of the project. It will show the success rate of the project and will allow replication of the project on a larger scale and in other border areas.
