North West Europe’s inland ports face common challenges. And they must co-operate on a transnational basis if they are to better integrate with the emerging Trans- European transport network. The objective of the DIPCITY project is to deliver innovative infrastructure that makes it more attractive to shift freight by the inland waterways, which connect the area’s major cities, rather than truck. by achieving this, the project will also help to promote the sustainability of the inland ports’ hinterlands and the metropolitan areas they are located in. The four North West European inland ports participating in the 16.2 M Euro project will also share lessons on how their activities can be better planned so that they can be more attractively integrated into the urban environment. DIPCITY, which is being led by the Port of Brussels, will also seek to develop ways in which water transport can be used to improve the sustainability of the cities they pass through, such as transporting a greater proportion of municipal waste by canal or river. The project will also address safety and security.

Achievements (EN): The conclusions and outcomes are summarised in the DIPCITY final report, made available in English and French version on the lead partner website.
