The goal of the project was to create a functional Finnish and Russian research environment around the RFMedia laboratory shared by the Central Ostrobothnia University of Applied Sciences and the University of Oulu, in order to make the high level of Russian expertise available to Finnish companies in their R&D activities. Creating the research environment included initiating research cooperation, importing special equipment to the research environment, planning the R&D project operations in accordance with the needs of companies, creating cooperation models and starting the research projects. The project was believed to strengthen the Oulu Southern Institute and the organisations and companies operating there. In addition, it was thought to create a cooperation network, a socalled technology community, in the mobile technology sector.

Achievements (EN):

The project created a Finnish and Russian research environment where two Russian researchers worked during the project; two more were due to arrive after the project period. Importing equipment technology did not occur as planned in the project. Instead, the project relied on the existing equipment in the RFMedia laboratory, which was supplemented during the project, but from other RFMedia laboratory sources. The project was used to support company R&D as planned. A long-range DSP radio device was designed and built for Tracker Oy in the Finnish and Russian research environment. The company is responsible for implementing the commercial version of the project, thereby continuing the work of the project. The goal to create and maintain connections with universities was also successful, since St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University ‘LETI’, Karelia State University of Pedagogy and Petrozavodsk State University joined the cooperation effort. Continuous contact was maintained with the universities during the project.
