Description (EN):

EU most important automation & mechatronic industries are in CE regions: business dimension is intercontinental but the services to kick innovation are still local & this slows quick canalization of R&D results from EU & CE labs into the industrial system. This makes tech-transfer & brokerage commissioned by companies long, expensive, often duplicate efforts & do not respond to the time-to-market requirements. The challenge is increasing & federating these services to accelerate the transposition of KET from EU-funded research & CE labs in new end-users components & apps for CE advanced manufacturing industries. NUCLEI main objective is to change the obsolete innovation management model from a “local-based” technology scouting approach to a transnational pool of knowledge supporting advanced manufacturing innovation beyond regional borders. This increases economic interdependences among seven S3-manufacturing Regions & encourages more effective transnational value chains in automotive, electrical industry, IT sector, robotic & mechanic automation. Such joint knowledge sourcing approach helps 7 NUCLEi industrial clusters & its end-beneficiaries (Corporations, SMEs, R&D performers) to foster process of emergence of new consortia/business deals for execution of bold technological, product, market projects. The creation of 1 broad&collaborative environment, initially tested by 100 testimonial companies from 7 CE Regions, is expected to increase linkages with innovators outside own regions by 40-50%, accelerate the time-to-market of R&D concepts (from EU-funded research &CE laboratories to companies) by 15-20%, increase R&D expenditure & patent applications by 2-3% of mid-term turnover. Drivers to run innovation are 1 joint cloud based on FoF-IMPACT&COFACTOR H2020 projects, 3 pilots (tech-brokerage; knowledge transformation; mechatronic standardization) & 1 Business Innovation Strategy to expand NUCLEi i-services within each regional S3 as driving force

Achievements (EN):

NUCLEI aimed to establish a transnational innovation management model in Central European regions and created a transnational pool of knowledge that support advanced manufacturing innovation beyond regional borders. This work increased economic interdependencies among seven regions and encouraged more effective transnational value chains in automotive, electrical industry, IT sector, robotic and mechanic automation. The main project achievements were: Investigated the potential impact and integration with other regional projects or relevant policy initiatives. Conducted trans-regional analysis of the policy instrument adopted in Central Europe regions, outlining those measures that can be investigated more in depth and potentially taken as inspiration for new policy initiatives. Transferred results to S3 managers, outlining the requirements resulting from the contacts with the companies involve in the project pilot actions. Obtained a careful analysis of the different regional contexts with a focus on regional R&D goals for advanced manufacturing, to be considered in the design of innovation services, made by the NUCLEI partners.

Expected Results (EN): R 1.1 Status of linkages among actors of the innovation systems achieved through transnational cooperation in central European regions.

Expected Outputs (EN):

The creation of 1 open & collaborative environment for the CE advanced manufacturing & processing industries - based on the genetic modification of the innovation-management services - results in a fast-lane to accelerate the transposition of KET results (>TRL 5-8) in new end-users components & applications. This change, compared to the traditional local-based scouting, initially leads 100 testimonial companies from 7 NUCLEI regions operating in mechatronics & automation to increase linkages and cooperation with innovators outside the regions by 40-50%, accelerate the time-to-market of R&D concepts (from EU-funded research & CE laboratories to companies) by 15-20%, increase R&D expenditure & patent applications by 2-3% of turnover. Such indicators are certified by the Innovation Union Scoreboard 2014 through special Key Perf. Indic. The way to gather interactions is supported by 1 joint e-cloud to perform a quick industrial-oriented screening of the most promising R&D results borne in CE labs for the CE advanced manufacturing sector; 3 pilots (tech-brokerage; knowledge transformation; mechatronic standardization, interoperability & sustainability) to provide 100 companies with a transnational collaborative environment to quickly transpose R&D products in industrial processes; 1 Business Innovation Strategy & 7 Action Plans for expanding NUCLEI i-services within each regional S3 as innovative approach to support ESIF 2014-2020 regional investments + 7trainings for S3 managers
