The objective of SB WELL is to build a solid foundation for developing the coastal area (area draining to the Baltic Sea) of the south Baltic (SB) in to a sustainable tourism destination that is competitive on the global market. This includes increasing awareness on what the region has to offer in terms of natural and cultural heritage, and facilitating the choice of green services and products. We believe there is a potential for branding the region as a world-class provider of high quality recreation for wellbeing. Today people become more conscious about the need of a healthier lifestyle which makes wellbeing tourism a fast growing segment within the industry. The market however is highly competitive and the SB region is in a sense a new player and not sifficiently well known on an international scale. Despite the high quality and precious resources for recreation and wellbeing available in the SB, there is a need to increase the attractiveness of the region as well as capacitate actors in this segment. Moreover, since tourism is a high resource demand sector there is an emerging exigency for it to be carried out in harmony with the surrounding environment. We believe in tourism that brings wellbeing to the visitor as well as to the hosting region, in terms of both the natural and human resources on which the industry draws upon. Some of the additional current challenges that will be adressed in the process of producting the products of the project are limited low and off season options for recreation, joint (i.e. affordable) marketing opportunites reaching an international audience for SMEs, lack of diversification in producs and services offered.The seed funding from Interreg is essential to carry out a thorough prefactibiliy study of the current situation, scan the current resources, investigate the concerns and needs of the industry in depth, as well as to extend the colaborations for partners to more countries and secure associated partners in Sweden.

Expected Results (EN): Increased awareness among potential visitors on what the SB coastal region has to offer. Clear branding of the coastal region as a competitive actor on the global market in offering services and products in green wellbeing tourism.

Expected Outputs (EN):

The main output of the Seed Money will be project concept paper and Application Form of the future project in which the main outputs will be knowledge-building and capacity enhancement on sustainable wellbeing tourism for SMEs and the public sector; digital innovative tools for communicating awareness on the attractiveness and quality of places, services and products in green wellbeing tourism to key potential visitors and, promotion of the SB coastline as an attractive destination for green wellbeing tourism. The project will result in a clear branding of the SB region in sustainable wellbeing tourism and a step-by-step guide (roadmap) on how to develop this specific type of tourism customized to the SB. This roadmap is directed to SMEs and the public sector encouraging collaboration and stakeholder participation. It will bring actors together that have a genuine interest in working towards increased sustainability and regional wellbeing. This will on top of trainings and study visits be solidified though creation of a new association. The assessment will emphasize the unique values and resources of the regions natural and cultural heritages and encourage integrating it within existing and new products and services. It will further be designed with special attention to the challenges of the region such as short summer season and growing needs such as a larger diversity of family related activities. The new digital tools will contribute to an increased awareness among potential visitors on what the SB region has to offer in terms of green wellbeing tourism. Planned tools are for example an interactive wellbeing Atlas for the SB targeted to potential visitors and a set of multiseason wellbeing routes that are connectable between partner regions. Our envisaged Atlas would be extended to include a larger range of places for wellbeing as well as a database over related SMEs.
