Description (EN):

Project contributes to the sustainable use and environmental protection of the heritage sites located in Ełk County in Poland and Birštonas municipality in Lithuania. On Polish side activities shall be implemented in the Protected Landscape Area of the Ełk Lake District, while on Lithuanian side project covers Great Nemunas Loops hydrological rezerve and Natura 2000 site Nemunas Loops. In the frame of the project these natural heritage sites will be developed and preserved: infrastructucture addressed to the visitots and tourists will be upgraded and special equipment installed. In parallel to the investment activities, the study visits for officials working in local governments or its' units emphasizing the importance of sustainable use of environment are planned. The aim of the soft activities is better understanding and commitment of the cross-border area decision making processes in the field of sustainable use of environment and and futher smooth practical implementation of the desisions. The expected project’s results seek not only to improve environment, but also to increase the attractiveness of the cross-border region in a sustainable way, without harming the nature.

Projekt przyczynia się do zrównoważonego wykorzystania i ochrony środowiska obiektów dziedzictwa kulturowego znajdujących się w Ełku w Polsce i Birštonas na Litwie. Po stronie polskiej działania będą realizowane w Obszarze Chronionego Krajobrazu Pojezierza Ełckiego, natomiast po stronie litewskiej projekt obejmuje rezerwat hydrologiczny Wielka Pętla Niemna oraz obszar Natura 2000 Pętla Niemna. W ramach projektu te miejsca dziedzictwa przyrodniczego zostaną zagospodarowane i zachowane: infrastruktura skierowana do odwiedzających i turystów zostanie zmodernizowana i zainstalowany zostanie specjalny sprzęt. Równolegle do działań inwestycyjnych planowane są wizyty studyjne dla urzędników pracujących w samorządach lokalnych lub ich jednostkach, podkreślające znaczenie zrównoważonego korzystania ze środowiska. Celem działań miękkich jest lepsze zrozumienie i zaangażowanie w procesy decyzyjne na obszarze transgranicznym w zakresie zrównoważonego wykorzystania środowiska oraz dalsze sprawne wdrażanie tych decyzji w praktyce. Oczekiwane rezultaty projektu mają na celu nie tylko poprawę stanu środowiska, ale również zwiększenie atrakcyjności regionu transgranicznego w sposób zrównoważony, bez szkody dla przyrody.

Projektas prisideda prietvaraus ir tausojančio paveldo objektų, esančių Lenkijos Elko apskrityje ir Lietuvos Birštono savivaldybėje, naudojimo ir aplinkos apsaugos. Lenkijos veikla bus vykdoma Elko ežerų rajono saugomoje kraštovaizdžio zonoje, o Lietuvos - didžiųjų Nemuno kilpų hidrologiniame rezervate ir „Natura 2000“ teritorijoje „Nemuno kilpos“. Vykdant projektą šie gamtos paveldo objektai bus išplėtoti ir išsaugoti: bus atnaujinta lankytojams ir turistams skirta infrastruktūra ir įrengta speciali įranga. Lygiagrečiai investicinei veiklai, planuojami pažintiniai vizitai pareigūnams, dirbantiems vietos savivaldose ar jos padaliniuose, pabrėžiant tvaraus aplinkos naudojimo svarbą. Pagal projektą „minkštomis“ veiklomis planuojami veiksmais siekiama geriau suprasti ir įsitraukti į tarpvalstybinių sprendimų priėmimo procesus tvaraus aplinkos naudojimo srityje ir tolesniuose sklandžios praktininių sprendimų įgyvendinimo etapuose. Laukiamo projekto rezultatais siekiama ne tik pagerinti aplinką, bet ir tvariai padidinti pasienio regiono patrauklumą, nepakenkiant gamtai.

Achievements (EN):

In natural heritage sites infrastructural improvement works and special equipment installation were done. Study visits for officials working in local governments , as well social campaign emphasizing the importance of sustainable use of environment were organised. Investment part of the project contributed to environment protection by using energy efficient technical solutions and renewable energy sources to develop and preserve natural heritage.
