The cross-border area of Romania and Bulgaria is an extraordinary place, full of cultural and natural heritage, but tourism lacks genuine attractions targeted to the segment of richer tourists. Flying with hot-air balloons is a remarkable experience, a tourism attraction that could bring many well-paid tourists to visit the CBC area and also a possibility for many local cbc citizens to fulfill a dream. At the same time the balloons could bring added value to any event organized in the CBC area. With this project we aim to create a new tourism product, which is still unknown for the cbc area and to involve all interested in tourism development stakeholders in the new touristic offer, eventually increasing the share of richer tourists in the area and promoting the image of the cbc area. Estimated project budget amounts at 488083,20euro. The main objectives of the project are: project management, delivery of hot-air balloons and related equipment; balloon promotion of the CBC area; development of marketing strategy for the new product, workshops with local stakeholders for the creation of a joint CBC tourism offer; training of balloon ground crew; information and publicity; promotion at tourism fairs; balloon flights on ropes; balloon fiesta. Project results will be: the creation of a new functioning tourism product; increased number of overnights – 1000; created network with promoters of the new tourism product.

Achievements (EN):

Main achievements following the project implementation include: - LB and B3 purchased two hot-air balloons and the related equipment, car and trailer; - The marketing strategy for a new cross border tourism product/hot-air balloons was developed and presented during the workshops to the stakeholders. Description of the new tourism product, appropriate flight places in the CBC region and promotion of the product are part of the marketing strategy. - Both LB and B3 performed each 100 hours of free flights in Bulgaria and Romania; - B2 and B3 organized 8 workshops with local stakeholders, out of which 4 in Bulgaria and 4 in Romania; - The partners took part in the tourism fairs in Sofia and Bucharest where the project tourism product was promoted through a photo album and a brochure developed within the project; - Information and promotion activity such as: 4 press-conferences carried out by LB and B3, elaboration of leaflets, developing and broadcasting of a video and radio spots by LB and B3; 3000 photo album copies were elaborated by B3; - LB organized 10 tethered flights, which were attended by 1,549 people; B3 organized other 10 tethered flights which were attended by 1,231 people. The project contributed to an increase of 2,520 visits to supported sites of cultural and natural heritage and attraction. - During the period 13-17 September 2017 at Erden airport, Montana, B2 organized the Balloon fiesta. Expected Results (EN): R2.1 - Number of tourist overnights in the CBC region

Expected Outputs (EN):

The new joint tourism product will promote the identity of the cbc region, increase the number of wealthier tourists, create a sustainable network of balloon tourism promoters. Increased overnights in the CBC area with 1000; Number of visitors of balloon events – 1000; 50 participants in balloon fiesta.
