165 millions de personnes (38% de la population de l’UE) souffrent chaque année d’un problème de santé mentale, comme la dépression ou l’anxiété. Les problèmes de santé mentale entraînent un fardeau économique et social extrêmement important, soit 20% du poids des maladies. Une e-santé mentale (e-SM) innovante et de qualité joue un rôle face à ce challenge sociétal. Cependant, il existe des différences régionales importantes dans l’utilisation des produits ESM, que ce soit pour la prévention ou le suivi. Le taux moyen d’utilisation en NL, FR, DE, UK, BE et IE est maintenant de 8%; avec le taux le plus bas en FR (<1%) et le plus haut en NL (15%). Les besoins non satisfaits sont aussi importants, avec une moyenne en UE de 6.8%. A la fin du projet, le taux moyen d’utilisation des produits e-SM aura augmenté de 7% à 15%. Cela contribuera directement à la performance économique et à la capacité d’innovation de la région: croissance des PME e-SM, réduction des coûts de santé et amélioration de la qualité, accès au suivi et prévention. Afin de favoriser ce changement, une plateforme européenne, première en son genre, pour l’innovation et le développement de la e-SM sera formée par les partenaires publics et privés en NWE; les partenaires sont des acteurs clés de la (e) santé mentale et ont un large réseau européen. Résultats principaux : au moins 15 PME soutenues, 5 produits e-SM développés, 1 méthodologie test de qualité, 1 proposition de politique transnationale. Cinq ans après la fin du projet, le taux moyen d’utilisation des produits e-SM aura augmenté jusqu’à au moins 25% (avec >40% en NL et >10% en FR). Une réduction moyenne des besoins non satisfaits jusque 2%. Dix ans après la fin du projet, le taux moyen d’utilisation des produits e-SM aura augmenté à 60%, avec une réduction moyenne des besoins non satisfaits jusque 4%. Durant cette période, une croissance de 5-10% des PME e-SM est attendue et une réduction des coûts de santé mentale jusqu’à 10% en NWE.

Description (EN):

Each year almost 165 million, or 38%, of people in the EU experience a mental health condition such as depression or anxiety. Mental illnesses presents a huge and growing economic and social burden for society, accounting for 20% of the disease burden. Innovative and high-quality e-mental health plays an important role in tackling this societal challenge. However, due to specific challenges, there are large regional differences with regard to the use of e-mental health products, for prevention and treatment. The average use in NL, FR, DE, UK, BE and IE is now 8%, which is low compared to other health care sectors; with the lowest use in FR (<1%) and the highest in the NL (15%). Unmet needs are also high, with an EU average of 6,8%. At the end of the project, the average use of e-mental health products will have increased with 7%, to 15%. This directly contributes to the region’s economic performance and innovation capacity: reducing healthcare costs, better care and access to prevention and treatment and increased growth of eHealth SMEs. In order to realize this change, a first in its kind EU-wide platform for e-mental health innovation and implementation will be formed by private and public partners in NEW; partners are key stakeholders in the field of (e)mental health and have a broad EU network. Main outputs: at least 15 SMEs supported; 5 e-mental health products developed; 1 quality test method; 1 transnational policy solution. Five years after the project ends, the average use of e-mental health products in all partner countries combined will have increased to at least 25% (with > 40% in the NL and >10% in FR). An average reduction of unmet needs: up to 2%. Ten years after the project ends, the average e-mental health use have will increased to about 60%, with an average reduction of unmet needs of up to 4%. During this period a growth of 5-10% of eHealth SMEs is expected and mental health costs savings of up to 10% in NWE.

Psychische Erkrankungen stellen für unsere Gesellschaft eine große wirtschaftliche und soziale Belastung dar, sie verursachen rund 20% der Gesundheitskosten. Innovative und qualitativ fundierte E-Mental-Health kann maßgeblich bei der Bewältigung diese gesellschaftlichen Herausforderung helfen. Noch bestehen beim Einsatz von E-Mental-Health Produkten für Prävention und Therapie große regionale Unterschiede. Die Nutzung liegt in NL, FR, DE, UK, BE und IE heute bei 8%. Die geringste Nutzung ist in FR(<1 %), die höchste in NL(15%). Der ungedeckte Bedarf ist mit einem EU-Durchschnitt von 6,8 % ebenfalls hoch. Bei Projektende wird sich die durchschnittliche Nutzung von E-Mental-Health Produkten um 7% auf 15% erhöht haben. Diese Entwicklung trägt direkt zur wirtschaftlichen Leistung und Innovationsfähigkeit der Region bei: Wachstum von E-Health KMUs, sinkende Kosten sowie bessere Versorgung mit Präventions- und Behandlungsangeboten. Um diesen Wandel zu erreichen, wird von privaten und öffentlichen Partnern in NWE erstmalig eine EU-weite Plattform für E-Mental-Health Innovationen und Implementierung gebildet; die Partner sind bereits wichtige Akteure im Bereich (E-)Mental-Health und haben ein großes EU-Netzwerk. Die wichtigsten Ergebnisse: Unterstützung von mind.15 KMUs; Entwicklung von 5 E-Mental-Health-Produkten; 1 Qualitätstestverfahren; 1 länderübergreifende Politikempfehlung. 5 Jahre nach Projektende wird sich die durchschnittliche Nutzung von E-Mental-Health Produkten in allen Partnerländern um mind. 25% erhöht haben (>40% in NL und >10% in FR). Der ungedeckte Bedarf soll auf unter 2% reduziert werden. Nach 10 Jahren wird sich die Nutzung im Mittel auf etwa 60% erhöht, der ungedeckte Bedarf auf unter 4% reduziert haben. In dieser Zeit wird in NWE ein Wachstum von 5-10% für E-Health KMUs erwartet sowie Einsparungen im Bereich der psychischen Gesundheit von bis zu 10%.

Expected Outputs (EN):

Based on country surveys and feedback from the project partners, we can see that there are large regional differences with regard to the use of e-mental health products, for prevention and treatment. The average use in NL, FR, DE, UK, BE and IE is 8%, which is low compared to other health care sectors. The lowest use is in FR, with less than 1%, and the highest, with about 15% in the NL. Unmet mental health needs are high, with an EU average of 6,8% (DG Employment 2013; EU epSOS project).
