Transport systems in Central Europe often show a lack of integration between modes of transport, resulting in weak local, regional and transnational accessibility. Disparities in appropriate connections within and among centres of urbanization often contribute to an unbalanced territorial development. While an emerging range of services in the so called “sharing economy” starts showing their benefits in urban and densely populated areas, their successful application on a regional scale including rural areas and other specific territorial contexts still has to be proven. SHAREPLACE aims at promoting, facilitating and enhancing the opportunities and capability of sharing and efficiently exploiting resources as a crucial factor for a sustainable and balanced territorial and socio-economic development. SHAREPLACE will develop an innovative approach for planning and delivering sustainable mobility services in CE, integrating conventional and flexible mobility services, as well as market-based and peer-to-peer sharing approaches in order to optimise and maximise the potential benefits for the transport networks, for all the groups of users and for the stakeholders. In particular, the project will target some specific outcomes: (i) Databases of services/offers, integrated timetables; (ii) Mobility community laboratories and workshops; (iii) Solutions for new sustainable shared services; (iv) a matching tool/platform for the implementation of shared services integrated with the main options offered by the local transport network; (v) mobility awareness initiatives. The project will be based on four pillars: (1) participation and collaborative approach; (2) technology as enabler; (3) sharing as the key to viable models for the provision of innovative services; (4) awareness and behavioural change as a catalyst. Transnational dissemination, communication and cooperation activities will ensure that the SHAREPLACE model is replicated and applied on a broader scale across CE.

Achievements (EN):

Transport systems in central Europe often show a lack of integration between modes of transport, resulting in weak local, regional and transnational accessibility. Disparities in appropriate connections within and among centres of urbanisation often contribute to an unbalanced territorial development. The overall goal of SHAREPLACE was to develop an innovative approach to improve the connectivity of local, regional and transnational mobility systems. SHAREPLACE will be open to all types of passenger transport services and target groups. Initial development and testing was carried out in five pilot regions: Bergamo, Crema (both Italy), Osijek (Croatia), Ulm (Germany) and Zalaegerszeg (Hungary). By implementing living labs and actively engaging stakeholders, transferable solutions for a more integrated, accessible and harmonised mobility system in five central European regions were designed. These solutions are supported by innovative business models and strategic guidelines for policymakers and planners. After three years, the SHAREPLACE project ended. The learnings and experiences cover the co-design process, development and testing of innovative solutions, and the potentials of integrated mobility under different perspectives (planning, governance, technology and market). During the project we had the chance to learn about open source solutions developed within the project and their replicability in different mobility strategies and networks. The five pilot regions planned, implemented and evaluated different services, like carpooling, bike sharing and DRT. In addition to the services themselves, the implementation of multimodal trip planning was a focus in the project. We learned what is necessary to engage different stakeholders, how open source solutions can be developed and how new mobility services can be integrated in existing strategies.

Expected Results (EN): R 4.1 Status of coordinated planning capacities of the public sector and related entitites for regional passengers transport systems linked to national and European transport networks achieved through transnational cooperation.

Expected Outputs (EN):

Key outputs of the projects at local (living labs, business plans, pilot activities, innovative seamless services, local strategies and action plans), project (technology based service hub, business modelling, engagement and co-design strategies), and regional level (regional transport strategies to improve connectivity towards national and European transport networks) will be scaled up within the involved and other Central Europe areas, in order to become a common model for integrating low carbon sustainable mobility options in planning and coordination of regional systems, thus bringing them closer to citizens. Partners will elaborate, test, promote and scale up a common concept based on participative approaches and social relations, ICT based tools and new services, in order to make sustainable mobility choices more attractive, convenient, efficient and enforce the accessibility. The intense activities of cooperation among partners from different areas in Central Europe will not only allow the improvement of planning capacities of the public sector, but also foster an approach whose focus is on coordination different types of solutions into an integrated effective system, capable to connect areas where the implementation of novel schemes is currently critical with the most accesible nodes of the regions and the TEN-T corridors.
