Description (EN):

The project is a joint solution identified by the 4 beneficiaries for problems related to the lack of concrete actions for the sustainable use of the specific natural and cultural resources. Harsova - Krushari area is characterized by a particular historical heritage, with great relevance in the identity and development of both peoples. Unfortunately, these cultural treasures are little known to the general public and both communities are shrouded in obscurity, although the hidden treasures can certainly generate development through tourism. Therefore, the main objective of the project is to create and promote an attractive tourism product, based on natural and cultural resources of the region, able to generate and maintain tourists’ interest in a consistent way. The objective will be achieved by creating a modern and attractive tourism infrastructure, as follows: the renovation and restoration of Ensemble V. Cotovu - a historical heritage building -, which is currently in a state of decay and its transformation into a Multicultural Center Museum; the rehabilitation of the access road and the connection between Carsium Fortress and Ensemble V. Cotovu; tourism facilities in Zaldapa Fortress and Dry Valley and setting up an innovative outdoor museum in Krushari. This infrastructure will join the two cross-border communities, establish and promote a tourist route between them. It will boost and maintain tourism in the region. Thus, the impact on program’s indicators is obvious: the project generates an attractive tourism product that will be supported by a joint marketing strategy for attracting tourists, thereby increasing the number of overnight stays in the cross-border region.

Achievements (EN):

The implementation period of the project ended on 19.12.2023, but because of delays in the investment activity of LB and of the remaining soft project’s activities, the project was included on the list of non-functional projects, according to the provisions of the Romanian Government Decision no. 36/2023, following the decision of the Monitoring Committee of the Interreg V-A Ro-Bg Programme no. 313/14.11.2023. The new completion date of the project is 31.12.2024. Many activities foreseen within the project are already completed: - The tourism infrastructure of Fortress Zaldapa - Municipality Krushari was developed; - The tourism infrastructure in Dry Valley was developed; - An outdoor museum in Krushari Municipality was set up; - A workshop on the topic: developing and promoting of a cross-border tourism product – advantages and challenges, creation of a joint marketing strategy, establishing of a touristic route and guided tour “Zalpada – Dry Valley – Karsium”; - The joint tourism product was promoted through a presentation film and a web site; - An archeological camp was organised. B2 – Krushari Municipality has set up an open-air museum in the center of Krushari, where the artefacts and findings from the fortress Zaldapa were exhibited. The 10 streets foreseen to be modernized in Harsova are finalized and the reception of the works was done. Regarding the restauration works at the Multicultural Centre “Vasile Cotovu” (the Old School and the Pedagogue’s House), the construction works are ongoing.

Expected Results (EN): R2.1 - Number of tourist overnights in the CBC region

Expected Outputs (EN):

The results generate the enhancement of tourism in Harsova- Krushari area, thereby increasing the number of overnight stays in CBC Region. Implementation of the common plan directly contributes to increasing the number of overnight stays. Of the 1.800.000 tourists registered on the Romanian-Bulgarian coast in 2013, at least 2,5% will extend their stay for one more night, due to the Tourism product developed; the crossing route (Harsova-Dry Valley-Zaldapa) lasts at least one day. The number of overnights in CBC Region after project implementation increases by 45.000 until 2023. The project contributes to the accomplishment of the priority axis no 2 results, the financial intervention being proportional to the expected results.
