Description (EN):

COMON CHALLENGE: Manufacturing industry represents a generator of RD, innovation, growth and employment. Based on increasing pressure on manufacturers (increased production capacity in low-cost economies and increased level of sophistication of supply chains in high-cost economies) is the MAIN OBJECTIVE to improve framework conditions for innovation in the area of “smart factory”. Result is improved cooperation between RD and business where based on RIS3 centered model, quadruple helix partners will be oriented to find novel solutions in the following 3 domains: applying novel technologies, applying effective production process and applying effective human resource management system. MAIN OUTPUTS are: 1 common transnational RIS3 centered Smart Factory Model with Action Plan and 2 testing schemes - pilot implementation of innovative supply-driven (TransferLab) and demand-driven (PolicyLab) actions based on knowledge platform, cooperation profile matrix and learning hub for technology alliances. APPROACH: Project consists of 13 carefully selected competent partners who are according to the role in the project divided into 3 groups. First group represents regions and regional public agencies who are implementing RIS3 schemes (DE, SI, HR, SR), second group represents intermediate partners with broader access to SMEs – national chambers, clusters and technology parks (SI, HU, SK, BG, SR) and third group represents RD partners (DE, AT, CZ, RO). INNOVATIVE CHARACTER: (1) Transfer Lab: integrated cross- sectoral experts approach (technologies, process, HRM), focus oriented program to production oriented SMEs with transnational pool of experts via voucher scheme, sustainable business model; no similar scheme existing. (2) Policy Lab: unlocking administrative restrictions, transfer of good practices on policy level. TRANSNATIONAL ADDED VALUE: international pool of facilitators network helping local SMEs to improve competitiveness, positive impacts on employment. Information added on 2020-05-12, regarding the mitigation of the effects of COVID-19 (the corona virus pandemic that started in 2019) (English language only): Linking regional SMEs and relevant stakeholders into a regional smart hub and helping them to apply the principles of industry 4.0, thus reducing their physical dependency in their manufacturing processes.

Achievements (EN):

"When you reduce the cost of failure, you see a big eruption of innovation” (Gary Hauthier). This quote describes well the Smart Factory HUB project. Within 3 years the partnership of the project saw many-many technological solutions related to Industry 4.0. And had a chance to know more about smart manufacturing and digitalization. The following numbers describes well the success of the project : - 261 SMEs interviewed, - 58 good practices collected, - 33 facilitators involved, - 12 training modules and e-learning platform developed, - 105 Smart Factory Solutions identified and promoted through a catalogue, - 9 Learning Demonstrational Workshop organized to promote Smart factory Solutions, - 44 regional workshops organized in 10 countries and - 23 transnational vouchers supported.

Expected Results (EN): Intensity of cooperation of key actors in the programme area in order to improve framework for research and innovation (composite indicator)

Expected Outputs (EN):

Improved cooperation between research and business in the field of SMART FACTORY area. Based on RIS3 centered Smart Factory business model and prepared two pilot schemes – Transfer Lab scheme and Policy Lab scheme, quadruple helix partners will be oriented to transfer novel solutions in 10 pilot regions within the following 3 domains: 1) APPLYING NOVEL TECHNOLOGIES: technologies to improve energy efficiency, ICT tools for better management and process monitoring, mechatronics to reducing working steps, product defects and improving production efficiency; 2) APPLYING EFFECTIVE PRODUCTION PROCESS: improvement of production process through quality standards and lean production process with efficient data management - effective system to measure the efficiency and controls operation; 3) APPLYING EFFECTIVE HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM: measuring employee. effectiveness, satisfaction and performance incentive system. Project will contribute to improve governance of innovation through the implementation of a transnational cooperation structure which will be in a position to support the EUSDR. Project will therefore result 1 RIS3 centered smart factory strategy with action plan, 4 tools, 2 learning interactions and 2 pilot schemes which will be tested in 10 pilot regions with min 40 involved actors (20 smart factory solution transfers).
