Description (EN):

The aim of SENDoc is to introduce the use of wearable sensor systems in ageing communities in northern remote areas. These sensors can measure mobility, strength, balance, and also wellbeing, exercise, and safety, and have the potential to support independent living. SENDoc will assess the technical, clinical and social acceptability of early stage, and market-ready wearable technologies and their impact on patients, on health and care delivery, and on rural communities. SENDoc will focus on changing existing rehabilitation programmes. It will transfer research and development in wearable systems, apply connected healthcare concepts, put in place community networks, create platforms where data and experiences can be shared and supported, capture data through innovative sensor wearable software systems, measure impact on health, test technical and social acceptability, and test the functionality in cold climate conditions. Workpackages will explore current knowledge and best practices, will define, install and refine NPA character specific wearable sensor systems, will implement the four rehabilitation demonstrator projects, and propose a new healthcare service delivery model - a transnational home-based rehabilitation service delivery model, which will be generalisable, susutainable, and of use beyond the current partnership. These technologies have long term implications for every older person living in the northern periphery, particularly women, who form a disproportionate element of the rural eldery. This strong partnership brings together technicians, clinicians, associated expert and service providers to engage with patients, citizens and communities to address this challenge.

Expected Results (EN): Awareness and attitudes among health professionals towards the use of eHealth technologies

Expected Outputs (EN):

The aim of SENDoc is to introduce and demonstrate the use of wearable sensor systems in ageing communities in northern remote areas. These sensors have the potential to support independent living. SENDOC will: - transfer research and development in wearable systems which measure fraility and mobility conditions in ageing patients, - apply connected healthcare concepts to enhance and improve community care provision, - put in place community exercise networks improving rehabilitative exercise to enable independent assisted living for ageing rural communities, - create platforms and communities of patients where data and experiences can be shared and supported, - capture data through innovative sensor wearable software systems, such as a wearable glove, wearable back sensor, - measure impact on health, wellbeing, society, health efficiencies, rural community care needs and in what ways sensors support independent living, - test the technical and social acceptability of using GPS location sensors for safety of older people in rural areas, - test the functionality of sensors in cold climate conditions, - develop a transnational rehabilitation service delivery model, SENDoc will produce a new rural public service delivery model for rehabilitation. The specific NPA region case studies will provide unique solutions which can show success through qualitative and quantitative measures for community end users. In this way SENDoc will improve access to health care services in remote rural areas. SENDoc will specifically consider special interest groups such as women groups and rural communities on islands; aiming to improve quality of life, sustaining ageing patient groups in their communities as long as possible. Learning from ITTS showed that often health care professionals can have a poor attitude to ehealth technologies. This can be because they haven't had the chance to use it, more often because they have used it but it has not worked. If they have not been involved in its design, or crucially, how it is integrated into everyday practice, then it will be irrelevant to their needs, and not used. SENDoc will make a positive impact on awareness and attitudes of health professionals towards the use of ehealth technologies by: - engaging with them on acceptability and usage of wearable sensors in the heathcare system, - involving them in the design of the demonstrator projects, - by ascertaining their views once the testing period is complete, - by enabling them to participate and be involved in new service delivery models. In practical terms transnational cooperation will allow the movement of staff, knowledge, funds, technological know-how and equipment as well as policy levers across transnational boundaries which would otherwise be more difficult to achieve.
