Description (EN):

DIYReNew aims to overcome the challenges of peripheral location; dispersed demography and lack of critical mass by promoting and implementing DIY wind and solar energy solutions for dispersed buildings in rural communities. It enhances local energy autonomy and efficiency providing also smart energy solutions for remote public infrastructure and housing. Locally tested small-scale and easy-to-build DIY solutions (household solar systems in Finland/wind systems in Scotland) are made applicable in different NPA regions with help of knowledge transfer, stakeholder training and active involvement of local residents. The novel and low cost/low barrier DIY approach directly involves and benefits local stakeholders excluded from centralized energy systems. Training of DIY solution trainers and a multilingual online learning platform on RE practices further enables multiplication of results within and beyond NPA partner regions.

Expected Results (EN): Preparedness of responsible authorities in remote, sparsely populated areas for environmental management in relation to climate change and impacts of new investments in exploitation of natural resources

Expected Outputs (EN):

Project Main Result is as follows, ""Introduction of Environmental Management Tools for local, regional and central government in the form of a Climate Adaptation Plan, Risk Register and Preparedness Scale Matrix which can be adapted throughout the NPA region in order to enhance the capacity and preparedness of local and regional communities to handle the risks connected to climate change"". The CLIMATE project will therefore have a positive result on the NPA programme result indicators; (i) Number of schemes/interventions involving sustainable environmental management. Positive contribution : Production of Climate Adaptation Plan, Preparedness Scale and Risk Register which can be adapted for local, regional and central government throughout the NPA region. (ii) Number of capacity-building solutions to maintain the balance between competing environmental, economic and social interests. Positive contribution : Exploring models for monetary valuation of climate change adaptation, audit of the economic value in developing the plans and the potential economic cost of doing nothing eg “pay now for preventative measures or pay later following impact of climate change”. Development of a Knowledge Hub/Environmental Management Tool. Development of a portal for research and data for synthesis of best practice models. (iii) Number of new decision making tools or governance concepts facilitating sustainable environmental management. Positive contribution : Production of Climate Adaptation Plan, Preparedness Scale and Risk Register which can be adapted for local, regional and central government throughout the NPA region.
