The CB economies experience high youth unemployment rates, indicating the challenge of young graduates to enter the labour market. According to research, the main obstacle of young people for entering labour market is lack of experience, not so much lack of education. One opportunity to receive work experience and get an advantage while entering labour market, is to do voluntary work. According to LinkedIn research 41% of LinkedIn hiring managers consider volunteer work equally as valuable as paid work experience when evaluating candidates. Sport is the most attractive field for volunteering, in which over 20 million people in EU takes part either occasionally or regularly. However at the moment the access to sports volunteer work opportunities in CB region is chaotic. Young people lack the opportunities to effectively and systematically provide their services as sports volunteers and get information concerning different opportunities for volunteering. Therefore the main objective of the current project is to increase the social inclusion of young unemployed and improve their access to the labour market, through development and piloting of cross-border sport volunteering model in Southern-Finland and Estonia. The project objective will be reached through following activities: 1) Development of overall cross-border sports volunteering model and piloting it among 500 young unemployed during different sport events in EST and FIN; 2) Developing and piloting innovative ICT-based platform (phase 1 of the technical solution to the model) for uniting sport volunteers and promoting sport volunteering opportunities in FIN and EST; 3) Conducting promotion campaign, organising awareness-raising seminars at vocational schools/universities and a large-scale conference (forum) for promoting sport volunteering possibilities (as a labour-market advantage) among young unemployed.

Achievements (EN):

YOUTH-SPORT-VOL - a platform to find volunteering work; To improve possibilities for young people to enter the labour market, YOUTH-SPORT-VOL implemented a sport volunteering model. The model allows young adults to gain working knowledge in the framework of volunteering, thus improving their possiblities to find work. To make volunteering easily discoverable, the project created a web service that allows browsing of events and registering as a volunteer in them. A permanent secreatariat for sport volunteering was established at the Tallinn University as well. The project engaged with 985 unemployed young adults, nearly twice as many as planned.

Expected Results (EN): R4.1. Communities with improvements

Expected Outputs (EN):

The current project clearly contributes to the programme result indicator "Communities with improvements", because it is focused on improving a growing (local and society level) social and economical problem - youth unemployment. The main results of the current project are: 1) Developed cross-border sports volunteering model for young unemployed;2) 500 young unemployed have received work experience, and therefore an advantage while entering labour market, during the piloting of the model (e.g. during different international and local sport events);3) Developed and piloted ICT-based platform (phase 1 of the support system to the model) for uniting sport volunteers and promoting sport volunteering opportunities in Finland and Estonia;4) Conducted promotion campaign (incl. in social media) for promoting the sport volunteering among young unemployed;5) Organized 6 awareness-raising seminars at vocational schools and universities and a large-scale sport volunteering conference (forum) for promoting sport volunteering experience (as a labour-market advantage) among young unemployed and to the wider public;6) Sport Volunteers Permanent Secretariat has been set up in Tallinn to ensure the sustainability of the model and the daily work and follow-on developments of the ICT-based platform developed during the project. The secretariat will not be a separate legal entity but a part of the Sport Year Foundation.During the project, young unemployed will be instructed how to show their voluntary work in their CV-s and promote it to their potential employers. This will be done during the piloting activities (to 500 unemployed) and awareness-raising seminars.
