The green movement and circular economy are encouraging growing amount of entrepreneurs because consumers demand for natural, healthy and ecological products is increasing fast. This green and blue growth offers new business opportunities, jobs and an approach for enhancing micro entrepreneurship. Yet, there is a true mismatch between demand and supply. We have an abundance of natural resources in the CB area, but we do not know how to make green business of them. The aim of the project is to support growth and competitiveness of green entrepreneurship and business as emerging sectors by aligning and improving relevant skills. As a result, an aligned, cross-sectoral and professional training programme of green entrepreneurship and business development with its curriculum is designed and piloted. The emphasis of the programme is in developing the local natural resources into sustainable business activities. First, needed skills are identified and aligned through research activities. They are translated into a new training programme with its curriculum, courses, and study material that are all included in an open access online platform. The programme is piloted also online combined with different experience exchanging events. Various communication activities (webinars, information and coaching days, publications) support the project implementation. The project is targeted mainly to micro entrepreneurs that exploit local natural resources in their business activities when producing sustainable, small-scale products and services that contribute to human wellbeing. By improving skills where the special characteristics of the niche market, industry and entrepreneurs are taken into consideration, the entrepreneurs get competence, confidence and tools to develop and grow by their environmental values. The project provides means to modernise professional training and redirect skills helping to adapt to changing business environment.

Expected Results (EN): R4.2. Increased share of aligned vocational education and training (VET) programmes in the Central Baltic region

Expected Outputs (EN):

As a result of the project a relevant, cross-sectoral professional training programme for green entrepreneurship and business development (appr. 20 ects) is designed and implemented for micro entrepreneurs producing small-scale products and services based on local natural resources. Entrepreneurs learn e.g. to find and target the market niches of green consumers; to develop innovative green products and services that also have positive impact on wellbeing and quality of life; about the certificates in the industry to provide quality; to build and sell the green lifestyle; to market and finance sustainable growth; to access new, potential markets together. First, skills needed and skill gaps in green entrepreneurship and business development are identified and aligned in the CB area. Then, based on this information, a professional training programme with its curriculum, courses, and study material is designed and implemented where emphasis is in green entrepreneurship and business skills of developing the natural resources into sustainable business activities. The training programme is targeted as a continuing education promoting lifelong learning to micro, green entrepreneurs and to people intending to be entrepreneurs. In addition, business support organisations and advisors can participate to enhance skills to support the emerging sector to grow. Target group also includes future entrepreneurs (students) participating in pre-incubator activities. The teachers in the CB area are also trained for the new programme. When the project ends, the programme is integrated as a specialisation module to the existing degree programmes and also implemented as a continuing education programme and separate, intensive courses. The project’s objective contributes to the programmes specific objective of increased share of aligned VET programmes in the CB area by creating an aligned professional training programme.
