Description
Description (EN): CONTEXT:
Many business intelligence surveys demonstrate that Digital Realities (Virtual reality and Augmented reality) are becoming a huge market trend in many sectors, and North America is taking the lead in this emerging domain. Tourism is no exception and the sector in Europe must innovate to get ahead of the curve of this technological revolution, but this innovation needs public support.
PARTNERSHIP:
In order to provide labs, startups and SMEs willing to take this unique opportunity with the most appropriate support policies, 9 partner organizations from 8 countries (FR, IT, HU, UK, NO, ES, PL, NL) decided to work together: regional and local authorities, development agencies, private non-profit association and universities.
OBJECTIVE:
Thanks to their complementary experiences and know-how, they intend to improve policies of the partner regions (structural funds and regional policies), in order to foster a tourist channelled innovation in the Digital Realities sector.
APPROACH:
All partners will work together on policy analysis tasks before exchanging their best initiatives and transferring them from one country to another. This strong cooperation will allow them to build the best conditions to foster innovation thanks to more effective structural funds policies and regional policies.
MAIN ACTIVITIES AND OUTPUTS:
8 policy instruments are addressed, among which 7 relate to structural funds programmes. Basis for exchange of experience: Reciprocal improvement analysis and 8 study trips with peer-review of each partner’s practices. Video reportages for an effective dissemination towards other territories in Europe.
MAIN EXPECTED RESULTS:
At least 16 good practices identified. 8 targeted policy instruments improved. At least 27 staff members will transfer new capacities in their intervention fields. At least 8 involved stakeholders with increased skills and knowledge from exchange of experience. Expected 17 appearances in press and media, including at European level.
Read more Achievements (EN): In terms of activities, the project has organised a total of 40 policy learning events. It has also identified 22 good practices, produced 8 action plans and led to the increased capacity of 43 people. In terms of results, the project has succeeded in improving 3 regional development policies for a total amount of funds influenced of EUR 115,000.

Expected Results (EN): The aim of the project is to improve policies of the partner regions (Structural Funds and regional policies), in order to foster innovation in the Digital Realities sector in tourism.
As phase 1 of Digitourism is due to end in May 2021, it may be difficult to improve our Structural Funds target policies by changing their strategic focus. In these cases, we will concentrate on:
- the improvement of their governance
- finding ways to increase the number of projects supported by the end of the programming period.
Policy Instrument 5 is a Norwegian regional policy and has no relation with EU programming periods. The aim in this case is to improve it through structural change.
In order to reach our main objective, Digitourism aims at the following sub-objectives:
- To exchange experiences and initiatives of public policies and instruments dedicated to:
• Fostering innovation in a specific sector (Digital Realities when such initiatives exist): grants schemes, projects stimulation, etc.
• Organizing the best conditions to stimulate innovation in the Digital Realities sector, by strengthening the links between public research bodies, SMEs, public authorities etc., and by ensuring availability of public digital data to feed Digital Realities applications and products.
• Involving stakeholders of the tourist economy in the innovation process to help channelling this innovation into the tourist sector.
- To ensure the involvement of regional stakeholders, in particular Managing Authorities of Structural Funds, in the interregional learning process through the creation of 8 stakeholder groups.
- To build, implement and monitor 8 action plans to inject the fruits of these exchanges into 8 regional and Structural Funds target policies (see part B.2).
- To disseminate widely the results of the project in the partner regions, but also to whom it may concern in other EU regions and at EU level, so that the impact of the Digitourism project is as high as possible.
