Description (EN): Number of tourists visiting the Baltic States has been increasing for several years. However this growth often is not felt in border regions. The reason is distance from the the country centres and lower investment in regions. The project will aim to increase the number of overnight stays of incoming tourists in the project partners territories: Kuldīga, Kurzeme, Saldus, Skrunda, Mažeikiai, Akmenė. The Venta River connects all partner territories and it is one of the most diverse attraction in the region. The project partners will cooperate in various activities that will make Venta River more attractive for tourists and increase awareness of the project partners’ - regions.
During the project, the partners will set up stopping points near natural and cultural heritage sites located on the Venta River. More than 10 stopping points near the Venta river will be created Infrastructure for recreation will be set up and signs for attractions will be placed. Project website, mobile application, regional newsletters, info tours and advertising campaigns are planned.
Read more Description (LT): Jau keletą metų jaučiamas turistų skaičiaus augimas Baltijos šalių valstybėse. Tačiau šis augimas dažniausia nejuntamas šalių pasienių teritorijose. Šią problemą lemia didelis atstumas nuo šalies centro ir pakankamai mažos investicijos į pasienio regionus. Šiuo projektu bus siekiama didinti turistų apsistojimo skaičių projekto partnerių teritorijose: Kuldīga, Kurzeme, Saldus, Skrunda, Mažeikiai, Akmenė. Ventos upė jungia visų partnerių teritorijas ir yra viena lankomiausių vietų regionuose. Projekto partneriai yra suinteresuoti projekto veiklų sėkme, kurios padėtų Ventos upę padaryti dar patrauklesnę turistams ir taip prisidėtų prie projekto partnerių žinomo didinimo.
Projekto metu turistams bus įrengiamos poilsio vietos prie gamtos ir kultūros paveldo objektų. Daugiau kaip dešimtyje vietų šalia Ventos upės bus įrengtos sustojimo vietos, kuriose statoma rekreacinė lauko infrastruktūra taip pat upės krantuose bus statomi informaciniai ženklai. Projekto viešinimui numatyta sukurti internetinį puslapį, mobiliąją aplikaciją, išspausdinti straipsnius regioninėje spaudoje, surengti informacinę kelionę žurnalistams.

Projekta mērķis ir palielināt nakšņojošo tūristu skaitu projekta partneru teritorijās: Kurzemes reģionā, Kuldīgā, Saldū, Skrundā, Mažeiķos un Akmenē. Ventas upevieno visu partneru teritorijas, un ir viens no reģiona daudzveidīgākiem un pievilcīgākiem tūristu piesaistes objektiem.
Projekta partneri kopīgi veiks dažādas aktivitātes, lai veicinātu Ventas upes pievilcību, tādējādi palielinot tūristu interesi un informētību par projektā iesaistīto partneru reģioniem.
Projekta laikā partneri izveidos pieturas punktus pie dabas un kultūras mantojuma objektiem Ventas upes tuvumā.. Tiks izveidoti vairāk nekā 10 pieturas punkti, kuru ietvaros tiks izvietota atpūtas infrastruktūra un norādes uz tūrisma objektiem. Plānots arī izveidot projekta mājaslapu, mobilo aplikāciju, sagatavot informatīvos materiālus, nodrošināt informatīvās vizītes un veikt citus mārketinga pasākumus.

During the project water tourism infrastructure in Lithuania – Latvia border region was improved. Properly equipped stopping places with the small architecture such benches, tables, gazebos, WC, fireplaces was built in 11 locations in Akmenė region and 6 stopping places and 19 river marks (information signs) in Mažeikiai region. Updated 7 information stands about the natural and cultural heritage were set up near Venta river.
Two kayak stopping places with bench, arbour, bin (trash cans), WC, information stands were built in Nīgrande and Kalni in Saldus region. Interactive stand where tourist can found information about locals events, advertisments was acquired and installed in Skrunda. Also, “Ventas stega curonica” sculpture was built near Venta In Skrunda.
E-services for the project:
For the convenience of tourists, a website www.visitventa.lt has been created. Anyone interested in kayaking or just looking for information on attractions in the Venta River region can find a lot of useful information on the website and plan a kayak trip for themselves. The website provides information not only on places of interest, but also on kayak stops with the aforementioned infrastructure, as well as places to eat and to stay. Two mobile apps for tourists were created:
• “Visit Venta” (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=voldemaraspilvinis.venta) to access information from the website more conveniently.
• Venta Trip game – attractive kid’s game to ecourage to discover Venta river objects, monuments, landmarks and other things to be seen. http://visitkuldiga.com/celojums-pa-ventu/

New water tourism route:
In August 2019, project partners organized a four-day kayak trip as a part of the project activities to try out the newly installed water tourism route in Venta River. The trip started on 6 August, 2019 in Papilė, Lithuania and ended in Kuldīga.
In order to encourage people not only to go kayaking in Venta River, but also to visit the sights in the partner territories, the project partners came up with a game. Tourists who collect five stamps by visiting the objects marked in the leaflet and visiting the Mažeikiai Tourism and Business Information Center can rent three paddles for three hours for free. The partners hope that this will encourage tourists to be more interested in the history and nature of the country. Leaflet can be found there:
Mažeikiai tourism and business center has bought 3 and Kuldiga municipality 18 Stand Up & Paddle boats for visitors. 42 life jackets of various sizes have been bought for tourist safety. For tourist safety in Ventas rumba RIB Type boat has been bought.
Surveillance system and one video surveillance camera was placed near Kuldiga’s museum in order to observe and protect ”Ventas rumba” monument from various factors that could potentially damage it. As well, surveillance system and two cameras has been placed in a pathway on the left shore of Venta.
Skrunda municipality and Directorate of Venta regional Park has bought two drones designed to capture the most beautiful views of the Venta River from a bird’s eye view.
Partners participate in tourism fairs.
Project partners presented Venta River tourism route in two of the biggest tourism fairs in the Baltics: BALTTOUR 2019 in Riga and ADVENTUR 2019 in Vilnius.
To increase the visibility of the project, the partners prepared articles for local and national newspapers: “Vakarų Lietuva”, “Kuldīgas Vēstis”, “Santarvė” and“Saldus zeme”.
Due to global Covid-19pandemic planned Media & Familiarization trip from Lithuania to Latvia had to be cancelled.

Expected Results (EN): Overnight stays of visitors in the programme area
Expected Outputs (EN): Results. 1. Increased number of visitors in the programme area 2. Increased leisure place for visitors in urban green area. 3. Improved nature and cultural heritage. 4. More opportunities for entrepreneurs to develop service 5. Increased marketing of tourism. One of the main problem , which is going to be solved during implementation of the Project: 1) lack of interest in culture, cultural heritage, its conservation, development and promotion, lack of tourist, abandoned, not used cultural and natural heritage sites. When the Project of the adaptation of the river Venta kayak route will be implemented, there would be creates an integral river marking system, arranged current locations and adapted new exits to the natural and cultural heritage sites in Lithuania and Latvia. Prepared mutual river Venta route that links two Baltic states will be adapted to the principles of sustainable development, which will allow more efficient use of existing natural resources and reduce the current and future tourist flow impact on the environment, thus creating conditions for preserving the environmental for future generations.
