BACKGROUND: In the Central Baltic (CB) countries, there is a need to develop current education regarding resource efficiency, which is a relatively new and complex issue. Lahti University of Applied Sciences (FI), University of Gävle (SWE) and University of Latvia (LV) are answering this need by developing higher vocational education training (VET) together to better match the needs of companies. OBJECTIVE & ACTIVITIES: The objective is to develop aligned higher VET in resource efficiency in study programs as a response to the current sustainability requirements of companies through 1) Aligning and producing learning content to be used in higher environmental VET studies; 2) Producing a channel to share aligned materials; 3) Implementing joint innovative cooperation between companies and higher VET to ensure better matching work opportunities of sustainable business. The activities enable the creation of the holistic view of students and companies in the theme of resource efficiency and circular economy. OUTPUTS: As the main result of the project aligned curricula content, learning package "Resource efficiency and circular economy" is created. The content is implemented in 3 higher VET institutions in CB region. The result is achieved through the outputs 1) 10 ETCS of aligned and newly created curricula content 2) E-learning web portal to share the aligned curricula content 3) 12 practical case studies for companies in international student groups. TRANSNATIONAL ADDED VALUE AND WHAT IS NEW: Working with resource efficiency requires international cooperation due to needed holistic perspective. The joint learning materials developed in the project bring required perspective and improve VET in CB area. All partners bring their own expertise to the activities. Companies; awareness on resource efficiency is promoted and meanwhile institutions; better understanding of the needs of working life increases.

Expected Outputs (EN):

THE MAIN RESULTS: The main result of the project is aligned curricula content, learning package "Resource efficiency and circular economy" taken into use in 3 higher VET institutions in CB region. This increases the share of aligned vocational education and training in Central Baltic Region. The main results are achieved through: - 10 ETCS of aligned curricula content, which is used in all three institutions’ in already existing environmental study programmes on higher VET level. - One e-learning web portal for the sharing of the aligned curricula content. - 12 practical case studies implemented in cooperation with companies in international student groups and the lessons learned, to support the learning materials. Out of these 10 ECTS, 8 ECTS is jointly created new learning materials (e.g. e-learning content) (in WP T1) and 2 ECTS is aligned content from the partners’ already existing course content (in WP T4). All partners bring their own expertise of resource efficiency and know-how to the activities. BENEFITTING STUDY PROGRAMS AND COURSES: The results of the project will be implemented in the three partners’ totally 4 study programs (HiG 2) as follows: Lahti UAS: B.Sc in Energy and Environmental Engineering. The produced learning materials will be used as a part of the following courses: Environmental projects course, Environmental Technologies, Circular Economy path studies I & II. Students from all bachelor level studies can choose these studies. HiG: B.Sc in Environmental Strategist and B.Sc in Environmental Engineering. The learning materials will be used as part of the following courses: Environmental engineering/environmental strategy in a systems perspective and Specialisation in environmental engineering/environmental strategy. UL: Environmental science bachelor study program. The learning materials will be used as a part of the following courses: Environmental Economy, Environmental technologies, Environmental management.
