Description (EN):

The XBIT project tackles the issue of inadequate conditions for the optimal and structured development of the IT industry and entrepreneurship within the programme area, and its sub-optimal utilization as a generator of innovation and competitiveness. This project intervention is using an approach built around Cross-border IT Network (XBIT Network), defined as a congregation of key stakeholders relevant for establishing a favorable environment for the development of the IT industry, fostering entrepreneurship, creation of jobs and employment opportunities, increasing the retention of talent in the industry and increasing the number of skilled professionals. Project objective: Creating favorable conditions for development of the IT industry and entrepreneurship, and their proper utilizing as generators of innovation capacity and an effective tool for increasing the overall competitiveness of the programme area’s economy. The most significant among project outputs are: created Cross border network of stakeholders relevant it the field of ICT, designed and implemented educational, motivational and networking programmes, established Fab Labs and Mobile Lab. Target groups: local public authorities, national public authorities, NGOs, higher education and research institutions, education/training centers and schools, enterprises, SME’s, business support organizations, IT professionals and beginners. Cross-border cooperation is necessary for achieving the scales of infrastructure and quality of specific ICT education. In addition to that, adequate levels of supply and demand for IT specialists, that would create favorable environment for the development of the IT industry and entrepreneurship, can only be reached with greater territorial scope, since the figure of 10.000 skilled professionals (estimated need of the IT industry in the programme area) is impossible to reach without joint cross-border effort. Information added on 2020-05-12, regarding the mitigation of the effects of COVID-19 (the corona virus pandemic that started in 2019) (English language only): The project “XBIT”, funded within the 1st Call for Proposals has made a great contribution to the fight against Covid-19 pandemic. Equipment procured through the project (3D printers) was used for the production of protective visor masks for more than 1000 healthcare workers from over 30 health institutions in Croatia and Serbia.

Expected Results (EN): Range of custer activities enhancing innovation, new technologies and ICT solutions.

Expected Outputs (EN):

1.1 Improved knowledge and skills in entrepreneurship, applying innovation and new technologies in both the traditional industry and e-trade and e-business. 1.2 Increased competitiveness and innovative capacity of companies by providing high quality ICT education and developing human resources in the programme area. 2.1 Established cooperation between public sector, education, r&d organizations, SMEs, corporate sector, business support organizations and entrepreneurs in order to improve competitiveness and develop the IT industry and entrepreneurship in the programme area. 2.2 Increased support and assistance to the development of local entrepreneurial and IT ecosystem with active involvement of key stakeholders. 3.1 Created new and innovative products and services with the use of VR, IoT and 3D solutions, for example: new VR content - 360 videos of turistic destinations or hotels/restaurants, developing games, organizing public screening of medical procedures for students and doctors in VR, using IoT solutions for agriculture - innovative weather stations, drones, smart production, using digital fabrication for rapid prototyping of furniture parts, fashion items, etc. 4.1 Strengthened capacities of traditional businesses for applying innovation and utilizing new technologies in the programme area. All the project results will be contributing directly to programme result indicator, as each of them is addressing some of its components.
