Das GROOF-Projekt ist ein innovativer und sektorübergreifender Ansatz zur Reduzierung der CO2-Emissionen im Bau- und Agrarsektor durch die Kombination von Energie-Sharing und lokaler Nahrungsmittelproduktion. Die Idee besteht darin, Dach-Gewächshäuser als Werkzeug zu nutzen für (1) die weitere Verwendung der im tragenden Gebäude erzeugten und nicht verbrauchten Wärme (durch das Lüftungssystem), die sonst ungenutzt verloren ginge, und diese (durchschnittlich ca. 30% Wärmeverlust durch die Dächer) in der Gemüse- und Kräuterproduktion zu verwenden; (2) das durch menschliche Tätigkeit und weitere Prozesse im Gebäude produzierte CO2 sammeln, um es den Pflanzen zur Verfügung zu stellen (CO2-Düngung); (3) den transportbedingten CO2-Ausstoß durch die Erzeugung von Gemüse und Kräutern vor Ort zu reduzieren. Somit wird die Kombination aus tragendem Komplex und integriertem Gewächshaus energetisch effizienter als zwei separat betriebene Gebäude. Konkret wird das Projekt die Entstehung dieser Art von Gewächshäusern auf dem Markt durch die Demonstration und Verbreitung bewährter Praktiken für die Entwicklung von profitablen und funktionalen Geschäfts- und Sozialmodellen unter den Akteuren der Bau-und Landwirtschaft erleichtern. Das Projekt zielt insbesondere darauf ab, (1) Marktzutrittsschranken (Stadtplanungsregeln, technische Vorschriften, Versicherungen usw.) zu identifizieren und zu verringern; (2) die Unterstützung der ersten Nutzer bei der Durchführung ihres Projekts; (3) die Wirksamkeit der Technologie für eine repräsentative Anzahl von Geschäfts- und Sozialmodellen demonstrieren. Die Ergebnisse jeder Aktivität werden mit den Zielgruppen geteilt (z. B. regionale und nationale Behörden, KMUs und Großunternehmen, Forschungszentren). GROOF wird in vier Pilotprojekte investieren, um die Wirksamkeit und Langlebigkeit der Modelle im Zusammenhang mit versch. Gebäudetypen zu beweisen und auf dem europäischen Markt einführen.

Le projet GROOF est une approche novatrice intersectorielle visant à réduire les émissions de CO2 des secteurs de la construction et agricole en combinant partage de l’énergie et production locale d’aliments. L’idée est d’utiliser les serres de toit comme équipement pour (1) récupérer la chaleur produite et non consommée par le bâtiment support de manière active (par le système de ventilation) et passive (30% de chaleur perdue à travers les toits en moyenne) dans une production de plantes, (2) recueillir le CO2 produit par les personnes et les activités du bâtiment pour "nourrir" les plantes, (3) réduire les émissions de CO2 des transports en produisant des végétaux localement. Ainsi, l’écosystème formé par la serre de toit et la construction support nécessite beaucoup moins d’énergie que si la serre était séparée. La serre elle-même est une activité supplémentaire située à l´extérieur du bâtiment mais qui partage de l'énergie avec de manière à rendre les deux structures plus efficaces. Concrètement, le projet facilitera l’émergence de ce type de serres sur le marché en démontrant et disséminant parmi les acteurs de la construction et de l’agriculture les bonnes pratiques favorables au développement de modèles d’affaire sociaux rentables et fonctionnels. Le projet s’efforcera: (1) d’identifier et réduire les obstacles d’accès au marché (règles d’urbanisme, règlements techniques, assurances...), (2) d’accompagner les premiers utilisateurs dans l’implémentation de leur projet, (3) d’expérimenter et démontrer l’efficacité de la technologie pour un nombre représentatif de modèles d’affaire. Les résultats obtenus par chaque activité seront partagés aux communautés ciblées (ex : autorités publiques régionales et nationales, PME et grandes entreprises…). GROOF investira dans 4 pilotes qui seront construits pour démontrer la pérennité des modèles proposés en fonction des différentes typologies de bâtiments et pour lancer la solution sur le marché européen.

Description (EN):

The GROOF project is an innovative cross-sectoral approach to reduce CO2 emissions in the construction and agricultural sectors by combining energy sharing and local food production. The idea is to use roof greenhouses as a tool for (1) recovering actively the produced and not consumed heat generated and otherwise lost by the building that supports the structure (through the ventilation system) and passively (30% heat lost through the roofs on average) in vegetables and herbs production, (2) collect CO2 produced by human activity and building activities to "feed" the plants, (3) reduce transport-generated CO2 emissions by producing plants locally. The greenhouse itself is an extra activity located outside of the building but sharing energy with it in order to make both of the structures more efficient. Concretely, the project will facilitate the emergence of this type of greenhouse on the market by demonstrating and disseminating among the actors of construction and agriculture good practices favorable to the development of profitable and functional business and social models. The project will aim specifically at: (1) identifying and reducing barriers to market access (urban planning rules, technical regulations, insurance, etc.), (2) supporting first users in the implementation of their project, (3) experimenting and demonstrating the effectiveness of technology for a representative number of business and social models. The results of each activity will be shared with the target communities (e.g. regional and national public authorities, SMEs and large companies, research centers). GROOF will invest in four pilots, designed to prove the effectiveness and durability of the models related to different building types. GROOF will then launch this solution on the European market.

Expected Outputs (EN): The current total emission of CO2 of the 4 pilot buildings is 472 t/y. Using UAB’s reference building and RG savings of 11 tCO2/y compared to a conventional greenhouse, it could be assumed that the GROOF 4 RGs would save 42 tCO2/y before PP's improvement.
