Die Glashaus Produktion von frischem Obst, Gemüse und Kräutern in Nordwesteuropa (NWE) ist eine erfolgreiche, innovative Komponente der NWE-Ökonomie. Diese Kulturen sind immer noch abhängig von Pestiziden um wichtige Krankheiten wie falschen und echten Mehltau zu bekämpfen. Diese Praxis führt zu Sprührückständen, die auf dem geernteten Produkt anhaften. Erdbeeren, zum Beispiel, können bis zu sechs Wirkstoffe binden als direkte Folge des Sprühens gegen echten Mehltau. Dies macht jährlich 40% aller erfassten Spritzrückstände aus. Wissenschaftliche Untersuchungen zeigten dass UVc-Licht Mehltau abtöten kann, dadurch kann der Anteil an Pestizidrückstanden unter 10% reduziert werden. Aufgrund der Intensität der Handarbeit wird die UVc-Technologie noch nicht im NWE Gartenbau verwendet. Hauptziel dieses Projektes ist es, den Wissensaustausch zu fördern und gemeinsam kostengünstige Roboter zu entwickeln, zu erproben und vorzuführen. Belgische und britische Experten im Glashausgartenbau werden zusammen mit einem belgischen Robotik-Experten und einem französischen Datenanalytiker innovative Roboter entwickeln, um autonom UVc-Licht in fünf Kulturen (Erdbeeren, Tomaten, Gurken, Salat und Basilikum) anzuwenden. Weil die Behandlung mit UVc-Licht häufig und lang andauernd durchgeführt wird, muss für den praktischen Gebrauch der Vorgang automatisiert werden. Durch co-Kreation werden Sensoren in einer elektronischen Nase von einem britischen Spezialisten entwickelt, um spezifisch die Anwesenheit von Mehltau in den verschiedenen Kulturen zu überwachen. Für die Entwicklung einer validierten UVc-Strategie in fünf Kulturen ist eine Projektlaufzeit von vier Jahren notwendig. Am Ende des Projektes sind Roboter im Handel erhältlich mit einer Benutzerfreundlichen Schnittstelle, einbezogen in eine erfolgreiche Strategie um Pflanzen vor Krankheiten und Schädlingen zu schützen. Darstellung des Sachverhaltens in NWE und umfassende Kommunikation während und nach der Projektphase werden den Gartenbauern zeigen, wie diese Innovation zu nutzen ist. Die Folge dieser Maßnahmen wird sein, dass der Pestizideinsatz und die Pestizidrückstände in NWE drastisch abnehmen.

Si dans l’Europe du Nord-Ouest (ENO) la production de fruits, légume frais et épices est une composante prospère et innovante de l’économie, l’usage intensif des pesticides est encore largement répandu. Une maladie importante dans de nombreuses cultures est le mildiou, dont le traitement chimique contamine les autres produits récoltés. Dans le cas des fraises la pulvérisation contre l’oïdium peut laisser jusqu’à 6 ingrédients actifs, soit 40% des résidus. La recherche scientifique montre que les UVc sont efficaces pour le contrôle physique du mildiou et peuvent devenir une alternative durable. Pour les fraises le taux de résidu tombe à 10%. En raison de l´intensité du travail manuel, la technique UVc n´est pas encore utilisée dans l’horticulture de l´ENO. Le projet va stimuler les échanges de connaissance, développer et tester des robots UVc rentables pour la protection des cultures contre le mildiou dans l’horticulture de l’ENO. Des experts horticoles en Belgique et au Royaume-Uni, avec une expertise belge en automatisation et française en analyses de données développeront conjointement des robots innovants qui mettront en œuvre une stratégie UVc pour cinq cultures (fraise, tomate, concombre, laitue, basilic). L’automatisation des applications UVc est indispensable pour la mise en œuvre de cette technique et va accroitre l’innovation en horticulture. La cocréation de capteurs innovants pour la surveillance automatique des maladies par un partenaire anglais spécialisé dans le développement de nez électronique allègera la charge des agriculteurs et assurera un contrôle étroit des maladies. Pour développer et valider une stratégie UVc couplée avec une gestion intégrée des parasites le projet durera 4 ans. A la fin du projet, les robots développés auront une interface facile à utiliser et proposeront une stratégie de mise en œuvre spécifique pour chaque culture aux producteurs; ils seront informés par des démonstrations dans tout l’ENO et la communication pendant et après le projet. Les utilisations de pesticides et les résidus de pulvérisation sur les récoltes diminueront fortement.

In North West Europe (NWE) the horticultural production of fresh fruit, vegetables, herbs and ornamentals is a successful and important component of the economy. Current horticultural practices still rely on intense pesticide use. One important disease in a variety of crops is mildew where chemical control also results in spray residues on the harvested product. In strawberry for example sprayings against powdery mildew can leave up to 6 active ingredients, contributing to 40% of the residues. Scientific research showed that UVc-light as a physical mildew control is efficient and has the potential to become a sustainable alternative. In strawberry this can reduce the residues below 10%. Due to manual labour intensity, the UVc-technique is not used in the NWE greenhouses yet. The main objective of this project is to stimulate knowledge exchange and to develop, test and demonstrate cost-effective UVc-robots for crop protection against mildew in NWE horticulture. Horticultural experts in Belgium and the UK together with Belgian expertise in automation and French expertise in data analyses will jointly develop innovative robots that can autonomously apply UVc-strategies in 5 crops (strawberry, tomato, cucumber, lettuce, basil). The automation of UVc-application is indispensable for the implementation of this technique and will increase innovation in NWE horticulture. Co-creation of innovative sensors for automatic disease monitoring by a UK partner specialized in e-nose development will alleviate farmers workload and ensure tight disease control in the crops. To develop and validate the UVc-IPM strategy in all crops a project period of 4 years is necessary. At the end of the project the developed robots will be available for growers with a user-friendly interface and a crop specific implementation strategy. Demonstration across the NWE region and extensive communication during and after the project will inform growers to ensure innovation roll-out. Pesticide use and spray residues on harvested produce will decrease drastically in the NWE region.

Expected Outputs (EN): Each crop cycle requires several treatments and, depending on the crop, the number of chemical application against mildew ranges between 3 to 15. These treatments result in 1 to 8 active ingredients found as residue on the produce.
