Description (EN):

The project promotes comprehensive intervention and enables the long term conservation of endangered local grape varieties at the cross-border region in BG and GR. A mechanism will be developed for protection and conservation of species in general, based on the joint actions in the CB-region. The utilization of local traditional varieties will add CB-value and provide the option to produce a product which could be qualitative, unique and easily recognizable. The developed under the project experimental fields will secure the conservation and distribution of the genotypes after the project end.

Expected Results (EN):

The implementation of the research on local varieties and DNA analysis will contribute to better conservation status of vines in the eligible area, including Natura 2000. Grapevine biodiversity in the entire eligible region will be explored in order to locate, record, sample and genetically analyze local varieties/genotypes, identifying unique and unknown ones. 2 experimental fields will be established for identification of local varieties, their maintenance and rescue from obscurity or disappearance. 2 Protected designation of origin registrations according Reg. EU 1308/2013 will be launched. A Training Center will be created and trainings for local farmers and local public authorities will start in order to develop environmental friendly motivation for growing and preserving local traditional vine varieties. Ampelographic book will be developed and promoted as well as 2 recommendations for national governance.
