Description (EN):

The present project is addressing the mutual problem of lack of investments in reconstructing, preserving and popularizing valuable cultural and historic monuments and sites in the CBC region which are lockated in smaller towns. The monuments which will be renovated are of great importance to the people of the towns of Dolna Mitropilia and Motatei. These are respecitvely the Roman Ad Putea Road Station (Dolna Mitropilia) and Church of St. Nicholas (Motatei village) . Through conservaton and restauration works, and investment in their socialization they can be included in the tourist routs in Dolna Mitropilia and Motatei which will help create an integrated tourism product for the two municipalities - "Archeology and culture". This product will not include only these two sites but also other cultural sites in the region - remnants of roman villages, churches, monasteries and others. It is expected that the results of this project will help the people from the municipalities to visit the historic and cultural sites more easily and will also attract tourists from other towns and countries. The work of reserchers in the filed of archeology, iconography and religion will also be stimulated. The created interest and development of the tourism will stimulate the municipalities as well as other organizations to look for additional funding and initiatives focused on reastauration and preservation of the cultural and historic monuments. The main objective of the project is to bring together the people in the region through protecting their common cultural and historic heritage and further contribute to their economic wellbeing; to improve the cultural heritage of the Euroregion and to increase public awareness of the importance of the cultural and historic heritage of the region through creating integrated tourism product - "Archeology and culture". The programme output indicators this project is contributing to are - I9 - Number of integrated tourism products/services created - one integrated tourism product - "Archeology and culture"; and I10 - Number of common strategies, policies or management plans for valorising (including raising awareness) the cultural and natural heritage through its restoration and promotion for sustainable economic uses - developed common management plan for restoration and promotion for sustainable economic use of historic and cultural sites; development of marketing strategy for promotion of tourism product "Archeology and culture". The partners in the project are planning to implement it through common management and sharing of practices. In this case the CBC approach is needed due to the motivation of the partners to create a niche tourism product including less know cultural and historic sites. There are many projects impemented in the region that have put focus on creation of tourism destinations, but they include only bigger towns and already developed cultural sites. And in the CBC region there are many small villages with hidden trasures - cultural and historic monuments that are waiting to be descovered. Their popularization is of vital importance to their survival for the future generations. The indicative project budget is 1 489 955.57 euro and it is entirely dedicated to conservation and partial restoration of stone walls, socialization public works and video surveillance, construction of a building of an information and visitor center with adjoining infrastructure, parking, public works and establishment of a park area for Roman Ad Putea Road Station; Church of St. Nicholas (Motatei village)- Consolidate of church and bell tower; Restauration of interior painting; Change and repair of the roof; Create Heating system for church; Build an exterior access for people with disabilities; Exhibition of heritage objects in church; as well as soft measures for developmen of strateging documents for common management plan for restoration and promotion for sustainable economic use of historic and cultural sites and creation and promotion of tourism product "Archeology and culture" and its popularization.

Achievements (EN):

The Common management plan for restoration and promotion for sustainable economic use of historic and cultural sites, was elaborated. In addition, the LB has signed contract for "Elaboration of a Marketing strategy to promote the tourist product Archeology and culture” and the developed strategy was delivered to the LB in all three languages and is uploaded on the project website: www.tourism-dolnamitropolia-motatei.com/documents/. The dissemination of the elaborated Common Management Plan for restoration and promotion for sustainable economic use of historic and cultural sites and the Marketing strategy to promote the tourist product Archeology and culture, continued through the project website and the website of the Municipality. The technical design related to the LB investment objective “Conservation, partial restoration and socialization for Roman Ad Putea Road Station in Village of Riben, Municipality of Dolna Mitropolia”, was elaborated. The developed Technical Project for execution of conservation and restoration works in „Roman Ad Putea Road Station”, Object 1: "Conservation, partial restoration and socialization the Roman roadside station "Äd Putea"- stage and Object 2: "Ad Putea Information and Visitor Center and supporting tourist infrastructure" was delivered to LB in the middle of September 2019. The execution contract for works in Dolna Mitropolia was signed in the middle of February 2023. The construction site was opened in the beginning of March 2023 and the works were completed in the beginning of October 2023, being in process of final reception from the State Acceptance Commission. Related to B3 investment objective “Construction works in Church of St. Nicholas Motatei village”, the works executed together with the painting works within the church were also fully completed in the beginning of October 2023, expecting their final official reception.

Expected Results (EN): R2.1 - Number of tourist overnights in the CBC region

Expected Outputs (EN):

The local tourism relies on the attractiveness of the region and its increase is the main objective of the project. By implementing the activities, which are part of the project, creating an integrated tourism product and making the local tourist site more attractive and popular, the project will gather more tourists, resulting in increase of the number of the guests of all CB municipalities to 500 tourists in the CB region. The fulfillment of the project’s aim will result in promotion of the development of specific local tourism product based on unique regional hidden cultural and historic sites, adoption of strategies for their preservation, management and popularization; promotion and raising awareness of the created tourism product. The possibility to visit remote historic and cultural sites and to follow a defined tourist route that includes more than one object directly requires accommodation of the visitors in the local hotels/hostels and guesthouses. The accomplishment of the project will also have an indirect contribution to increasing the number of visits to other cultural and natural tourist sides in the CBC regions.
