Description (EN):

To avoid great yield reductions, there has been an increased use of pesticides during recent decades in cross-border area. This superfluous and uncontrolled usage of pesticides causes severe degradation of environment endangering nature, food and human health. Although necessary in industrial production, the use of pesticides should be strictly controlled and reduced to the minimum. Lot can be done by setting up forecasting model that predicts the likelihood of pest or disease outbreak. This can assist crop growers in determining when or if pesticides are needed thus resulting in minimum use of pesticide. To ensure that, joint actions will be taken by setting up joint pest and disease forecaster system (PDF) in whole Cross Border Area (CBA). Joint actions will contribute to the main project objective which is to promote reduced and targeted use of pesticides on ZC/HNC/WHC area in order to protect environment and nature. CBA area is facing following territorial challenges that will be tackled throughout this project: lack of joint cooperation on issue of environment degradation, lack of infrastructural (PDF system) and human capacities, non existing policy for prevention of pesticides pollution in CBA and low level of environmental pollution awareness among agricultural producers. PESCAR project aims to protect and preserve the environment, encourage the sustainable use of natural resources and raise human and institutional capacities on environment protection through implementation of PDF system, establishment of policy for prevention of pesticides pollution and raising awareness among agricultural producers. The main target group are agricultural producers who will, by following PDF system expert recommendations, significantly reduce their agricultural production costs and have great economic benefits, which is definitely added value to the project. CBA inhabitants and visitors will also benefit from the project since they will have better life quality.

Expected Results (EN): Disaster response capability in the programme area

Expected Outputs (EN):

PESCAR will establish sustainable system for the prevention of pesticides pollution in ZC/HNC/WHC by conducting research upon which measures for the risk prevention of most endangered agricultural areas by pesticide pollution will be created. Besides measures, specific instructions will be provided, for everyone involved, on how to act in case if environmental disaster occurs. New monitoring system will enable assessment of the pesticides impact on the environment and human health and tracking changes of the pollution level through years. Based on the results of the findings system providers will be able to determine if the pollution level is reducing due to the newly implemented pest&desease system, and implement prevention measures on endangered locations/products. Action plan will be made upon the results of the analyses by team of experts of different professions. Action plan will define specific measures for risk prevention of pesticides contamination for the group of most common agricultural products from agricultural locations in ZC/ HNC/ WHC . Defined measures concerns environmental aspects of the pesticides pollution (soil, water, air) and human health. Based on the action plan and defined measures there will be met all the preconditions for sustainable performing of the monitoring of pesticides and any other pollution in ZC/ HNC/WHC. In that way any kind of disaster will try to be predicted.
