Description (EN):

Strokes, obesity, and heart and lung diseases are among the health challenges in Europe. This implies a new service development approach in the public health sector. The project helps public health authorities in cities around the Baltic Sea to better promote healthy lifestyle by developing and testing a model that public health authorities can apply in prevention intervention planning. The model combines methods such as focus groups, motivational interviewing, eHealth applications, chatbots and health games. The aim of the project: In BaltCityPrevention 15 partners from 7 countries test a user-oriented approach to develop and implement prevention and health promotion interventions. The interventions are offered by public health authorities, e.g. health care and social departments in municipalities, and address people with different health issues. Current prevention measures are often ineffective, since the methods are not tailored to the users. To improve the tailoring, the prevention measures are developed together with the users. New technologies are to be employed in the planning procedures and also as innovative tools for prevention purposes. Projects’ activities: As a first step, some basic research is conducted in order to collect data to choose the right methods for the new approach. Building on this knowledge, the partners test the approach in different pilot sites. Networking is also a big part in the project. Networking activities between public health authorities and eHealth companies is organized to foster the cooperation between eHealth companies and those stakeholders that develop and maintain the interventions. Who is working in the project? The main partners in the consortium are the public health authorities which coordinate the testing at the pilot sites. They are the main drivers in the project activities. Universities deliver a research infrastructure and knowledge on methods and concepts used in this project. The project partners gather a group of important associated partners around them. These are SME clusters, policy stakeholders or prevention and health promotion associations. The close contact to these partners ensures a broad dissemination of project results and a pool of deeper knowledge and experiences.

Achievements (EN):

The project has developed an intervention model and toolboxes, involving the targeted Public Health Authorities (PHAs) into this process. These tools, which are already published on the project platform and are currently subject to a testing phase, will help health professionals to better plan, implement and evaluate health promotion interventions. Besides, the project has organised matchmaking events, in which SMEs and PHAs entered into dialogue with each other. In addition, the partners organised hackathons to bring children and young people together with PHAs and SMEs, and to jointly develop ideas for an eHealth solution improving children’s and young people’s health behaviour. http://interreg-baltic.eu/project/baltcityprevention/
