La forêt occupe plus de la moitié de la surface des Pyrénées et fournie, tant au niveau local qu’au niveau régional, de nombreux services (production de bois, protection des sols, régulation du régime hydrique, loisirs, etc.). Les changements climatiques peuvent entraver de façon importante cette multifonctionnalité des forêts pyrénéennes en entraînant des dépérissements dans les forêts, des destructions d’espèces ou habitats remarquables, une détérioration du cadre paysager forestier. Par conséquent, il devient de plus en plus évident que les gestionnaires forestiers des Pyrénées doivent anticiper ces changements en développant des outils communs pour améliorer la connaissance et la prise de décision dans la mise en œuvre d’actions d'adaptation sur le territoire. Dans ce contexte le projet CANOPÉE a pour but de: - Renforcer le suivi de la phénologie des principales essences des Pyrénées - Développer un outil pour caractériser la vitalité des arbres du Massif et leur vulnérabilité au changement climatique - Cartographier la distribution et la vulnérabilité (actuelle et future) des principales espèces forestières des Pyrénées selon les différents scénarios de changements climatiques - Élaborer et mettre en œuvre des actions de gestion adaptatives pour minimiser les impacts attendus sur les forêts du Massif

El bosque ocupa más de la mitad de la superficie del macizo Pirenaico y provee, de numerosos bienes y servicios a su población. El contexto actual de cambio climático puede afectar de modo importante esta multifuncionalidad provocando el decaimiento, la desaparición de especies, hábitats notables, o el deterioro del paisaje forestal. Por ello, se hace cada vez más patente la necesidad de que los gestores forestales del macizo se anticipen a los cambios a través del desarrollo de herramientas comunes para la mejora del conocimiento y la posterior implementación de acciones de adaptación sobre el territorio. En este contexto el proyecto CANOPEE propone: - Potenciar el seguimiento de la fenología de las principales especies del Pirineo - Desarrollar una herramienta para caracterizar el vigor de los árboles del Macizo y su vulnerabilidad frente al cambio climático - Cartografiar la distribución y vulnerabilidad (actual y futura) de las principales especies forestales del Pirineo bajo distintos escenarios de cambio climático - Desarrollar e implementar acciones de gestión forestal adaptativa para minimizar los impactos esperados Este será el primer proyecto operacional acerca de los impactos del cambio climático sobre la distribución, el crecimiento, el vigor y la vulnerabilidad de los bosques en un macizo transfronterizo, integrando todo el gradiente topo-climático de la cordillera.

More than a half of the Pyrenean surface is occupied by forests which provide a wide range of services (protection of the soil, climate regulation, production of wood, recreation) at the local and regional level. Climate change is expected to critically affect the dynamics and functioning of these systems and can induce important changes in their composition via the decline or extinction of some species and habitats. Maintaining the multifunctionality of the Pyrenean forests in the current context of change is an enormous challenge for forest managers. With this regards there is more and more concern about the need of developing both common actions to increase the knowledge on the potential impacts to the forests ecosystems and management strategies to enhance their adaptability face to change. The project CANOPEE aims at responding at this need by: - Guaranteeing the monitoring of phenological aspects on different representative forests on both sides of the Pyrenean range. - Developing and implementing a methodology to characterize the capacity of the Pyrenean species and individual trees to respond to declining events. - Modelling the distribution of the main forest species of the Pyrenean range and their present and future vulnerability to different climate change scenarios. - Identifying and implementing a common adaptive forest management strategy.
