El proyecto persigue el desarrollo de procedimientos de análisis clínico mínimamente invasivos, que puedan ser preparados por los propios pacientes en sus domicilios y enviados por correo ordinario, con las consiguientes mejoras en la calidad de vida de enfermos crónicos o de aquéllos con movilidad reducida, ayudando a reducir el número de las actuales visitas obligadas al centro sanitario. En concreto, el proyecto se centrará en dos poblaciones. Por un lado, personas con prótesis metálicas que requieren controles periódicos para garantizar su correcto funcionamiento. Teniendo en cuenta que muchos de estos pacientes tienen una edad avanzada y la gran extensión y baja densidad de población de las Comunidades involucradas, este objetivo es muy importante desde el punto de vista social. El otro grupo seleccionado es el enfermos de Wilson, una enfermedad rara, fácil de tratar pero difícil de diagnosticar, y que puede llegar a ser mortal sin el tratamiento adecuado. Para conseguir estos objetivos se pretende implementar el uso de dried blood spots (DBS), unas muestras que se obtienen tras la punción con una lanceta en el dedo de la mano y la aplicación de varias gotas de sangre en papeles de filtro clínicos, conjuntamente con el desarrollo de nuevos métodos de análisis elemental e isotópico. Para ello, los equipos de científicos seleccionados a ambos lados de los Pirineos disponen de instrumentación y formación totalmente complementaria.

Le projet consiste à développer des méthodes d’analyses cliniques très peu invasives, dont le prélèvement peut être réalisé par le patient lui même à son domicile et envoyé par simple courrier postal. Cette approche permet d’améliorer la qualité de vie des patients à mobilité réduite, leur permettant de réduire leur nombre de visites dans les pôles de santé. Le projet se focalisera en particulier sur deux populations. En premier lieu, les personnes portant des prothèses métalliques nécessitant des contrôles réguliers afin de s’assurer qu’elles fonctionnement proprement. D’un point de vue sociétal, cet aspect est particulièrement important en regard de l’âge souvent avancé de ces patients, de l’extension de nos territoires et de leur faible densité de population. Le second groupe choisi est représenté par les patients atteints de la maladie de Wilson, une maladie rare, facile à traiter mais difficile à diagnostiquer et qui peut être létale en absence de traitement adapté. Pour réaliser ces objectifs, nous voulons mettre en oeuvre l’utilisation de taches de sang séché (DBS), c’est à dire des échantillons obtenus après ponction de quelques gouttes de sang au bout du doigt du patient déposées sur du papier filtre clinique, associée au développement de méthodes innovantes d’analyses élémentaires et isotopiques. Les équipes de scientifiques retenues de part et d’autres des Pyrénées ont toutes deux une expérience et des équipements scientifiques complémentaires.

The project aims at the development of minimally invasive procedures for clinical analysis, which can be prepared by the patients themselves at home and sent by ordinary mail, with the subsequent improvements in the quality of life of patients with chronic or reduced mobility, helping to reduce their number of visits to the health center. In particular, the project will focus on two populations. On the one hand, people with metallic prostheses that require periodic controls to ensure their correct functioning. Bearing in mind that many of these patients show an advanced age, and the great extent and low population density of the Communities involved, this objective is very important from the social point of view. The other group selected is Wilson's disease patients, a rare disease, easy to treat but difficult to diagnose, that can be lethal without proper treatment. To achieve these goals, we aim at implementing the use of dried blood spots (DBS), a kind of sample obtained after puncturing the finger and applying a few drops of blood on clinical filter papers, as well as developing novel methods for their elemental and isotopic analysis. For these purposes, the teams of scientists selected at both sides of the Pyrenees have both fully complementary instrumentation and experience.
