Description (EN):

Energy Efficiency (EE) has been described as the EU’s biggest energy resource and one of the most cost effective ways to enhance the security of its energy supply and decrease the emissions of greenhouse gases and other pollutants. This is why the EU has primary energy consumption saving targets for 2020, 2030 and further legislation in the field looking to a 2050 horizon.The EU today finds itself in a place where EE investments have become strategically important due to the high level of energy imports required by the EU bloc, energy price instability and the need to transition to a competitive low carbon and resilient economy.Aligned to this consideration, REEHUB partners agree that building sector represent the largest energy-consuming sector in the economy, with over one-third of all energy and half of global electricity consumed.They share the idea that public buildings should be an example of best practise to energy saving, improving energy efficiency through innovative techniques and good habits and consumers’ behaviour.REEHUB aims to give a strategic contribution in this process, creating regional Hub, connected as a network, located in public buildings in each regions, where will be organized capacity building actions and collect educational materials for energy efficiency audit in the building sector. The two starting point will be the audit of the HUB in terms of energy saving and consuming, sharing a common energy audit approach for Mediterranean region and the capitalization in Molise and Albania of Alterenergy results.REEHUB audit approach will be transferred to different stakeholders, such as public technicians of Municipality, National Energy Department and policy makers.HUBs will become, connecting experience with similar Mediterranean regions, an “agora” where local policy maker of Italian and Balcan coasts can have open dialogue with citizien, building material industry, designer and green SMEs for the implementation of local energy plan.

Expected Results (EN): Common plans for energy efficiency and sustainable energy production

Expected Outputs (EN):

The transnational network of HUBs will create an “agora” where plans for EE can be implemented, sharing with local community and discussed at technical level. Best practises will be available to demonstrate the advantages of the audit methodology proposed and how it fits to EU rules. The project aims to cover the gap among countries on improving EE in building. REEHUB purpose is to create a public venue where all stakeholders (from school to policy maker to consumers and SMEs) can find tangible examples on how citizens can contribute to a sustainable growth aligned to circular economy principles. The Hub will be the first pilot venue where the audit methodology will be applied and tested. It will suggest an EE restoration taking into account local climatic factors and technologies that work both in winter and – most importantly – in summertime. The Mediterranean regions require less insulation than in centre/North EU regions, whereby a southern orientation is of much more importance.
