PANACeA est un projet horizontal qui focalise sur l’objectif spécifique 3.2.«Maintien de la biodiversité et des écosystèmes naturels à travers le renforcement de la gestion et de la mise en réseau des aires protégées». Il définit un mécanisme pour accroître la visibilité et l’impact des résultats des projets modulaires vers des cibles communes à travers les activités suivantes: 1)Synthétiser les résultats sur les efforts relatifs à la protection de la nature et à la conservation de la biodiversité; 2)Engager une communauté de parties prenantes et transférer les connaissances à long terme; 3)Mettre en œuvre une stratégie de communication et de diffusion; 4)Développer un outil de capitalisation à long terme, en assurant l’application des politiques basées sur les preuves. Les activités destinées à une communauté d’acteurs méditerranéens permettent de dépasser les limites sectorielles, en intégrant les connaissances pour une prise de décision mieux informée à plusieurs échelles. PANACeA soutient la création d’un canal de communication à double sens, afin d’assurer une interface Science-Décision efficace en Méditerranée. Le projet assure un objectif stratégique à long terme du Programme Interreg MED, en créant des impacts dans les Etats membres de l’UE et au-delà dans le bassin méditerranéen. Il contribue à la mise en œuvre des politiques de l’UE et de la Convention de Barcelone dans les domaines de la protection des ressources naturelles et de la conservation de la biodiversité.

Description (EN):

PANACeA is a horizontal project that focuses on the specific objective 3.2. “maintaining biodiversity and natural ecosystems through strengthening the management and networking of protected areas”. It defines a mechanism to increase the visibility and impacts of thematic projects’ results towards common identified targets through the specific activities: 1) Synthesizing outcomes on natural protection and biodiversity conservation efforts; 2) Engaging a stakeholders’ community and transferring knowledge beyond the project´s lifetime, 3) Implementing a communication and dissemination strategy, 4) Developing a long term capitalization tool ensuring evidence based policy enforcement. The activities ensure an active community of Mediterranean actors meant to overcome sectoral borders by integrating knowledge, allowing a better informed multilevel decision-making on and management of biodiversity. PANACeA supports the establishment of a two-way communication channel with the scientific community to ensure an effective policy-science interface in the Mediterranean related to biodiversity protection and sustainable development. It ensures a long term strategic goal of the Interreg MED programme by creating impacts beyond the EU Member states & in the Mediterranean basin as a whole. It contributes to the implementation of both EU and UNEP/MAP Barcelona Convention policies in the domains of protection and conservation of biodiversity and natural resources, in protected areas.

Achievements (EN):

WP1: The LP encouraged PPs to lead work in WPs & WGs with exchanges, preparation of activities & liaised with JS. Shared structures in Drive are reviewed for document sharing. Email & skype exchanges held to agree next steps & task allocation.The advisory board is informed & involved in activities. Budget changes and new proposal were agreed with PPs. Synergie is updated regularly. LP organized PP meetings (Rome & skypes) to discuss progress & exchanges with PPs to find solutions to unfunctional relations and staff changes in the consortium.WP2: The Interreg MED site is updated by WP2 PP CPMR. The MED BP Platform & interface developed & fed by LP is online at biodiversity.uma.es. +12 project spatial data viewers are updated when needed & a resource library fed progressively. Despite the increase in COM budget, more regular posts and graphics by the COM team are requested for web, pubs & social media. LP and some PPs also use own web & social media. PPs allocated some extra budget to COM to consolidate reports before publishing (HN, MARLICE,...). PANACeA was featured by PPs in 17 events: JS/HP workshop, BLUEMED CSA 2nd Coord. meeting, COASTING meeting, Med HPs/PANORAMED , Islands Comm. meeting & seminar POST-2020 cohesion policy, COHENET: Ecosystem-based networks of MPAs, Ecosystem Approach Correspondence Group, UfM Environment TF; Marlice, AMAre, FishMPABlue2; EMD WS, PlasticBustersMPAsWS, WETNET summer school, MPA ADAPT & MedSeaLitter events, CPMR Intermediterranean Commission GA.WP3: CB actions organised for WG1 biodiversity protection & management (marine litter, climate change, EBSAs); WG2 sustainable use of natural resources (fisheries, co-management) & WG3 integrated ecosystem monitoring & management (land-sea interactions, monitoring) and project tools. Working priorities are found in WG factsheets. Monitoring strategy was updated, with each PP responsible for 1 up to 3 projects and feeding MP information to PPs for capitalization. Consultants hired to support the WG work/joint products.WP4: Collaborative actions/events on WG policy targets are coordinated by the LP & all PPs are expected to lead their WG events and represent the community: Key achievements in addition to the Rome event: JS event in Thessaloniki, EU BlueMed meetings, UNEP MAP and UfM meetings related to environment (CORMON, Environment and Climate change TF, Interreg Balkan workshop, MARLICE International fair on marine litter, Herceg Novi workshop and MPA-ADAPT final event
