La mer représente une ressource énorme en matière d'énergie renouvelable (Energie bleue) avec entre autre les vagues, les marées et les courants marins. Exploiter le potentiel économique de cette énergie d'une manière durable a été soulignée dans la stratégie Croissance Bleue Européenne comme l'un des domaines clés qui, afin de développer des capacités et une masse critique suffisante, doit être soutenu par l'implication d'un large éventail d'acteurs. Le projet vise à accroître les capacités d'innovation et les coopérations entre acteurs des énergies bleues en Méditerranée au travers de la promotion d'un cluster transnational, les rassemblant afin de partager une compréhension commune des défis et de concevoir collectivement des solutions viables. PELAGOS mettra ainsi en place en cluster dédié qui fera la promotion de technologies et offrira un ensemble d'activités supports aux bénéficiaires comme les fournisseurs de technologies, les entreprises, les opérateurs financiers, les autorités publiques et les ONG citoyennes. Le projet permettra d'améliorer l'internationalisation des membres du cluster au travers d'un ensemble d'activités qui permettra de conjointement identifier des opportunités pour les énergies bleues. Cet objectif sera atteint par un affinement des connaissances existantes, le développement de compétences, l'identification d'opportunités facilitant la croissance économique en rapprochant les fournisseurs et les utilisateurs des industries maritimes ciblées.

Description (EN):

The sea represents a huge resource for renewable energy (Blue Energy, BE) such as waves, tides, and marine currents. Harnessing the economic potential of this energy in a sustainable manner has been highlighted in the Commission's Blue Growth Strategy as one of key areas, where in order to build the necessary capacity and critical mass, it is necessary to involve a wide range of stakeholders. The project aims to increase the innovation capacities and cooperation of BE actors in MED through promoting a transnational cluster, bringing them together in order to develop a shared understanding of the challenges and collectively devise workable solutions. PELAGOS will establish a Cluster in Blue Energy that will promote novel technologies and provide a mix of support activities to beneficiaries such as technology providers, enterprises, financial operators, authorities, NGOs end citizens. The project will enhance internationalization of the Cluster members through a range of activities that will jointly identify opportunities of BE in Mediterranean insular and coastal regions. This will be achieved through fine-tuning of existing know-how, development of skills, identification of common business opportunities and facilitation of growth by bridging providers and users in targeted maritime industries. The development of this emerging sector can become an important part of the blue economy, fuelling economic growth in coastal regions and create new, high-quality jobs.

Achievements (EN):

In the context of PELAGOS Interreg-MED project the first transnational Mediterranean Cluster in Blue Energy was created with the distinctive name “Blue Energy Cluster- powered by PELAGOS Interreg Med project”. This Mediterranean Cluster comprises 6 national HUBs that were launched in the first year of the project in Greece, Portugal, Italy, Cyprus, Spain and Croatia as well as the existing French cluster Pôle Mer Méditerranée.PELAGOS project aims through the aforementioned 6 national HUBs, that, along with the existing French cluster, constitute the transnational Mediterranean Cluster in Blue Energy, to offer a consolidated mix of support services to Blue Energy stakeholders.In this reporting period, the established national HUBs were coordinated through the implementation of their 4th Focus Group meeting and continued to offer their innovative services to the Blue Energy community. More specifically, through the implemented capacity building seminars PELAGOS project has reached so far more than 105 enterprises. The innovation potential of 95 SMEs has been identified and the readiness level of their technologies estimated. Moreover, Innovation plans have been drafted for 30 SMEs in Cyprus, Greece, Croatia, Italy and Spain, while more than 180 stakeholders had the opportunity to explore cooperation opportunities during the b2b events organized by the HUBs. Industry-academia cooperation has been actively supported in Croatia, Italy and Cyprus through the joint concepts service involving 6 SME per country. Local HUBs in Greece and Croatia have further facilitated cooperation between maritime industries and SMEs through the implementation of 6 company missions while the Croatian HUB has supported SMEs by developing their investor ready business plan and bringing them into contact with funding/financing organizations through the open innovation pathway service. Finally, several workshops were successfully organized in all project countries in order to exchange information on sensitive issues related to the deployment of MRE technologies such as spatial planning and coastal zone management. Last but not least, the Blue Energy Cluster platform is fully functional now. Indeed, the platform has been created by CRES at the be-cluster.eu and around 455 members have already been integrated into it. The BEC platform is expected to strengthen the cooperation between its members that will lead to new collaborations and the development of new products.
