Description (EN):

Due to different factors as the relocation of work to Asia, the industry contribution to the EU economy is declining. This reflects the necessity to transform the current industry sector into a smarter one. Nevertheless, the European Innovation Scoreboard 2017 shows that SMEs with innovative products or processes have decreased 18 points since 2010 and not all EU countries are at the same level of innovation and smart specialization. Therefore, it is essential to introduce the necessary changes in current policies to get a real smart transformation of the European industry, with the final aim of being more competitive and reaching the target set by the European Commission of boosting manufacturing´s share of GDP from 15% to 20% by 2020. On the other hand, Clusters have been proven to have a reticular effect to introduce changes in the European industry. The European Cluster Panorama 2016 shows that wages in more developed clusters are close to 3% higher than in industries not located in such regional hotspots. Thus, changing regional clusters policies will trigger the transformation of the industry in a larger scale. For that reason, INNO INDUSTRY project aims to increase rate of clusters that develop activities to support the transformation towards Industry4.0 by 2022 through the improvement of regional and national policies. INNO INDUSTRY proposes to establish a strategic work group with the aim to share best practices and knowledge related with cluster activities and the promotion of Industry4.0, as a based to develop and implement Action Plans on different identified regional policies in the addressed regions. The development of INNO INDUSTRY will achieve as key outputs a regional SWOT analysis in 10 EU regions, the identification of at least 30 best practices related with clustering and industry4.0, and 10 Action Plans to introduce improvements in addressed policy instruments.

Achievements (EN):

In terms of activities, the project has organised a total of 73 policy learning events. It has also identified 30 good practices, produced 10 action plans and led to the increased capacity of 101 people. In terms of results, the project has succeeded in improving 7 regional development policies for a total amount of funds influenced of EUR 8,843,828. 75.

Expected Results (EN):

INNO INDUSTRY project aims to increase rate of clusters that develop activities to support the transformation towards Industry4.0 by 2022 through the improvement of regional and national policies. From this main objective, several sub-objectives are defined: SO1. To know the weaknesses and strengths in the addressed regions regarding cluster activities and the implementation of I4.0 principles. SO2. To define and share best practices on introducing industry4.0 through clusters in each of the different regions addressed by the project. SO3. To elaborate actions plans for the different policy instruments addressed by INNO INDUSTRY project partners, with the aim to introduce improvements that give support clusters to transform current industry into a smart industry. SO4. To equip current policy makers, regional developers and cluster managers with the right skills and knowledge for the new technological advances. SO5. To introduce improvements in the addressed policy instruments for boosting the clusters´ activities related with the industry4.0.

Expected Outputs (EN):

INNO INDUSTRY project will improve addressed policy instruments to foster regional cluster activities related with the implementation of industry4.0. Only in the addressed regions it is estimated that there are more than 100 clusters and 4000 companies are members of them, so it will be possible to have a direct influence in the innovation capacity of thousands of companies, and therefore increase the competitiveness of addressed regions. During Phase 1, we list here the most relevant outputs and results: - A SWOT analysis in each addressed region regarding policies for supporting the industry4.0 and cluster activities. - The identification of best practices in partner´s regions in line of support the smart upgrade of the industry through cluster activities. - 10 Action Plans, one per policy instrument addressed by project partners, to plan how to influence addressed policy instruments to improve cluster activities related. with industry4.0. Furthermore, the following results will be reached in phase 2: - Cluster Regional Strategies, at least in 5 regions of project partners, as one of the result of the implementation of the action plans. - New fund programme in at least 2 regions of project partners, after the implementation of actions plans, for clusters with the final aim of fostering the industry4.0. - Increase 8% of cluster´s members in the addressed regions due to the added value that clusters could give to the regional economies will be highlighted and spread. As a final consequence it will be achieved: - Foster the transformation thanks to the use of the policies improved to advance towards smart industry or Industry4.0. Managing authorities and policy makers will acquire the conscience of how clusters can be use to boost new technological among the industry in their regions. - Awareness about cluster importance and their activities to policymakers, regional developers, entrepreneurs, professionals, workers and general public. The added value that clusters could give to the regional economies will be highlighted and spread. - Project partners and stakeholders will get to know the situation in foreign nations and learn from their enhanced experiences. - The profile of the partners and stakeholders will rise, since they will get exposure to a big set of other stakeholders at international level. - The reinforcement of the links between the policymakers and regional developers and the current situation in the labour market and industries.
