Description (EN):

The objective of this project was to establish a long-term cooperation between cross-border partners to develop of a Geographic Information System (GIS) that would improve water supply and drainage, and thereby contribute to the preservation of the environment and establishing sustainable development in the cross-border area. The project involved successive steps and groups of activities. In order to set the conditions for creating such a system, it was necessary to identify the zones for the Water Supply and Sewage (WS&S) network, record these zones in a GIS platform and develop GIS basic models for the aforementioned network. This was followed with the procurement of the required equipment, the setting up of polygon networks in the cities, and the recording of nodes and routes of the water supply and sewage system. After collecting all the necessary data on the existing WS&S systems on both sides of the border, the recorded data were transferred into GIS to create a database of water supply and sewage network users.

Achievements (EN):

This project covered the recording of the sewage network, as well as 20% of the water supply network. The project has provided a permanent GIS and recording system. It has also contributed to the simplification of the management of the WS&S networks. During the implementation of the project, the cross-border partners through exchange and mutual consultations significantly enhanced the existing procedures and introduced new methodologies in the daily operations of their companies. The system set up by the project and its activities, as well as the cooperation between the cross-border partners, have been continued after the completion of the project. During the implementation of the project the partners also created new project ideas and decided to jointly apply for funds in future calls for proposals. The project outcomes are likely to be taken further and multiplied, ensuring substantial and lasting benefits for the cross-border area.
