Le pou rouge des poules (PRP) constitue une menace lourde pour la filière œuf dans le monde entier, en particulier en ENO. Sa prévalence très élevée est en augmentation: > 90% des exploitations infectées en ENO, générant, > 100 millions d’euros de perte par an. Les infestations à pou rouge affectent la santé publique, la santé et le bien-être des animaux ainsi que la productivité de la filière œufs. Le contrôle du PRP est très délicat pour les exploitants, car peu de produits sont homologués en pondeuses et les premiers stades de l´infestation sont difficiles à détecter. Une approche IPM durable est nécessaire pour diminuer le recours aux produits de synthèse, empêcher les traitements illégaux (éviter des crises de type fipronil), améliorer santé et bien-être des poules, augmenter les bénéfices économiques et satisfaire la demande des consommateurs pour des aliments sains. MiteControl s´appuie sur les conclusions du réseau COREMI et vise à développer, tester et démontrer une technique de surveillance automatisée innovante, requise pour un système d´alerte précoce destiné à permettre aux éleveurs d’appliquer les traitements anti-PRP au bon moment. Par une coopération transnationale, MiteControl réunira les connaissances et compétences multidisciplinaires nécessaires pour développer, améliorer et tester conjointement des traitements innovants prometteurs, inclus dans des programmes d’IPM applicables dans les exploitations. La implementation et démonstration en EPC et10 fermes dédiées de 3 programmes d’IPM sera réalisée à travers l’ENO. Il en résultera une réduction des pertes de production, des niveaux d´infestation de PRP diminués et l' amélioration de la santé et du bien-être des animaux. MiteControl développera une stratégie de communication pour le secteur afin de sensibiliser et de changer le comportement des aviculteurs et que les programmes IPM deviennent l´approche durable standard pour contrôler l´infestation PRM en ENO et au-delà.

Die Rote Vogelmilbe (RV), Dermanyssus gallinae, ist eine große Bedrohung für die Eierproduktionsindustrie weltweit und in NWE Region. Die Prävalenz von RV ist sehr hoch; über 90% der Betriebe in NWE sind infiziert, was zu Verlusten von über 100 Millionen Euro jährlich führt. Der RV Infestation stellt ernste Bedenken über Tiergesundheit, Tierschutz, öffentlicher Gesundheit und beeinträchtigt die Produktivität der Eierindustrie. Die Behandlung von RV ist schwierig, da wenige Produkte zugelassen sind und die ersten Befallsstadien schwierig zu erkennen und behandeln sind. Ein nachhaltiger Schädlingsbekämpfungsprogramm Vorgehen ist erforderlich, um die chemische Behandlung zu verringern, die illegale Behandlung (und Fipronil-artige Krisen zu vermeiden) zu verbieten und die Nachfrage nach gesunder Nahrung zu erfüllen. MiteControl baut auf Forschungsaktivitäten und Schlussfolgerungen des COREMI-Netzwerks und zielt eine innovative automatisierte Überwachungstechnik (Smart Digital Farming) zu entwickeln, testen und demonstrieren, die für ein Frühwarnsystem erforderlich ist, um Landwirte darauf hinzuweisen, dass Anti-RV-Behandlungen erforderlich sind. Durch transnationale Zusammenarbeit wird MiteControl multidisziplinäres Wissen und Fähigkeiten zusammenbringen, die notwendig sind, um gemeinsam innovative und aussichtsreiche Behandlungen zu entwickeln, verbessern und testen, die in integrierten Schädlingsbekämpfungsprogrammen enthalten sind, und direkt auf Farmen angewendet werden können. Schädlingsbekämpfungsprogrammen (3) werden auf EPC und 10 Demonstrationsfarmen in der NWE Region implementiert und demonstriert, was zu Reduzierung der Produktionsverluste, niedrigen RV Befall und verbesserte Tiergesundheit und Tierschutz führt. MiteControl wird eine Kommunikationsstrategie für den gesamten Eiererzeugungssektor entwickeln, so dass Schädlingsbekämpfungsprogrammen der Standard nachhaltiger Ansatz zur Kontrolle der RV Befalls in NWE Region und darüber hinaus werden.

Description (EN):

The poultry red mite (PRM),Dermanyssus gallinae, is a major threat to the egg production industry worldwide and in the North-West European region in particular. The prevalence of PRM is extremely high and increasing; more than 90% of the farms in NWE are infected, causing economic losses of over 100 million annually. Red mite infestations pose serious animal health, welfare and public health concerns, and affect the productivity of the egg industry. Treatment of PRM is very challenging for farmers as only a few products are licensed for use during egg production and first stages of infestation are difficult to detect and to treat. A sustainable IPM approach is needed to decrease chemical treatment, ban illegal treatment (and avoiding future fipronil-like crises), increase animal health and welfare and economic benefits and meet consumers’ demand for healthy food (eggs with less pesticide residues). MiteControl builds on recent research activities and conclusions of the COREMI–network and aims to develop, test and demonstrate an innovative automated monitoring technique (smart digital farming), necessary for an early warning system to alert farmers that (extra) anti PRM treatments are needed. Through transnational cooperation, MiteControl will bring together multidisciplinary knowledge and skills needed to jointly develop, improve and test innovative promising treatments, included in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programmes that can be applied on farms directly. Three IPM programmes will be implemented and demonstrated on EPC and 10 commercial (pilot)farms across NWE resulting in low infestation levels and reduced negative effects on production, animal health and welfare. MiteControl will develop a communication strategy for the entire egg producing sector to raise awareness and change behaviour of poultry farmers so that IPM programmes will become the standard sustainable approach to control PRM infestation in NWE and beyond.

Expected Outputs (EN): Of all farms in NWE: 70% suffers from high to moderate PRM infestation with negative effects on egg production and animal health and welfare, 0% performs IPM, 5% performs monitoring but 0% uses automated monitor and 5% has knowledge of IPM.
