Marine aquaculture (fish, shellfish, algaculture) is a leading sector of the Atlantic area blue economy that counts on an important tradition in many EU countries and that is relevant in many of its coasts. As only 10% of Atlantic shore seafood is aquaculture-sourced there is great opportunity for raising its production in the Atlantic Area in a sustainable way. Access2Sea aims to improve the attractiveness of the Atlantic shore for aquaculture SMEs by enabling new business opportunities and providing sustainable and easier access to it. Its objective is to enhance the exploitation and preservation of the Atlantic Area’s natural assets by unlocking the existing barriers to provide the industry with technical solutions, enabling onshore production and disseminating existing and new solutions and providing support to the aquaculture SMEs to fix them or attract them to the Atlantic Area.

O projeto Access2Sea visa melhorar a atratividade do Espaço Atlântico para a aquacultura facilitado um acesso mais fácil e sustentável a oportunidades de negócio.

La acuicultura puede potenciar el crecimiento económico y la creación de empleo en lo que respecta a los productos del mar mediante la mejora de la explotación y preservación de los recursos naturales del Espacio Atlántico, siendo la creación de nuevas explotaciones sostenibles un factor clave para su economía azul (limitada por la reglamentación y la reducida aceptación social). Access2Sea visa mejorar el atractivo del Espacio Atlántico para la acuicultura facilitando un acceso más sostenible a la oportunidad de negocio.

L’aquaculture peut impulser le développement économique et la création d’emploi dans le domaine des productions marines grâce à l’amélioration de l’exploitation et à la préservation des ressources naturelles de l'Espace Atlantique, la création de nouvelles fermes durables étant un facteur clé pour son économie bleue (limitée par la réglementation et la faible acceptation sociale). Acces2Sea vise à améliorer l'attractivité de l'Espace Atlantique pour l’aquaculture en facilitant un accès plus durable à des opportunités d’affaires.

New opportunities for more competitive and sustainable blue growth in Atlantic Area Marine aquaculture (fish, shellfish, algaculture) is a leading sector of the Atlantic Area Blue Economy and is very relevant in many of its coastal areas. As only 10% of Atlantic shore seafood is aquaculture-sourced there is a great opportunity for raising aquaculture production in a sustainable way. ACCESS2SEA improves the attractiveness of the Atlantic shore for aquaculture SMEs by enabling new business opportunities and providing sustainable and easier access to it. The objective is to enhance the exploitation and preservation of the natural assets by unlocking the existing barriers, facilitating terrestrial production, disseminating solutions, and providing support to aquaculture SMEs, to strengthen or attract them to settle on the Atlantic shore. ACCESS2SEA integrates a market approach to the development of SMEs by supporting their generic productive investment, technology transfer and universityenterprise cooperation, business development, and support to social enterprises. The project provides SMEs access to tools to identify investment opportunities and space for the implementation of aquaculture farms in the Atlantic Area. It also promotes the improvement of business models, by supporting the creation of new businesses, providing training and information about the legal and regulatory framework. It supports the development of pilots with new investments for aquaculture and new models of intelligent facilities, creating more productive aquaculture companies. In the end, the project facilitates more social acceptability, as consumers are more receptive to products coming from aquaculture. ACCESS2SEA contributes to boosting economic development and job creation in the seafood sector by the sustainable exploitation of the Atlantic Area natural assets, as creating new sustainable farms is a key element for the blue economy in the region.

Expected Results (EN):

- Enable SMEs to assess spatial opportunities to settle in the Atlantic shore new aquaculture business, supporting them in exploiting the natural assets in a sustainable way. - Increase awareness of the aquaculture activities needs, potential and contribution to local development. - Creation of specific tools to support partners and other relevant decision/policy makers in the promotion and dissemination of the existing opportunities and sites of their territories for installing aquaculture activities. - Increase the cooperation between the aquaculture triple helix in those territories.

Expected Outputs (EN):

- 1 Access2Sea methodology (and tools) to identify territorial opportunities for installing aquaculture services in the project territories and correspondent opportunities map. - 1 Access2Sea social acceptance strategy and road map for its implementation. - Access2Sea Business Models and road maps for its implementation. - 2 Acess2sea prospective missions to develop aquaculture economic activity across the Atlantic area. - 6 pilot projects (talking the project field: spatial planning, social acceptance, business development). - 1 project communication plan (and correspondent communication tools). - 1 action for change action plan and position paper to assure the capitalization of the project achievements.
