The development of a world leading Marine Renewable Energy (MRE) industry in the Atlantic regions represents a fantastic opportunity to stimulate economic development in these more peripheral areas. Combating climate change and securing energy supply are also major issues and MRE represents a substantial and as yet largely untapped asset which will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by bringing highly productive renewable technologies closer to the market. Blue-GIFT will help Atlantic Area companies test the next generation of MRE technology in real sea environments and prove power can be economically generated from the ocean. The project will implement a coordinated MRE technology demonstration programme that encourages longer term demonstration and technology de-risking. This will maximise the use of government funded infrastructure across the regions to demonstrate a minimum of 8 MRE floating wind, wave or tidal pre-commercial technologies, working with over 20 SME's, sustaining 30+ jobs and helping to secure €15M investment into MRE companies.

Blue-GIFT irá ajudar as empresas do Espaço Atlântico a testar a nova geração de tecnologia de Energia Marinha Renovável (EMR) em ambientes marinhos reais e demonstrar que a energia pode ser gerada economicamente a partir do mar. O projecto irá resultar num mínimo de 8 demonstrações pré-comerciais de tecnologia eólica flutuante, ondas ou marés, mais de 24.000 horas de operação, trabalhar com mais de 20 PME, manter mais de 30 postos de trabalho e garantir um investimento de 15 M € em empresas de EMR.

El proyecto resultará en un mínimo de 8 demostraciones precomerciales de tecnología eólica flotante, olas o mareas, más de 24,000 horas de operación, trabajará con más de 20 PYMES, mantendrá más de 30 empleos y asegurará una inversión de 15 M€ en empresas de MRE.

Blue-GIFT aidera les entreprises de l'Espace Atlantique à tester la prochaine génération de technologie d’Énergie Marine Renouvelable (ERM) dans des environnements marins réels et à démontrer qu’une source d'énergie peut être générée de manière économique par l'océan. Ce projet générera au moins 8 démonstrations précommerciales de technologie éolienne flottante, de vagues ou de marées, plus de 24 000 heures de fonctionnement, travaillera avec plus de 20 PME, préservant plus de 30 emplois et contribuant à sécuriser les investissements de 15 millions d'euros dans les entreprises des EMR.

The development of a world leading Marine Renewable Energy (MRE) industry in the Atlantic regions represents a fantastic opportunity to stimulate economic development in more peripheral areas. MRE represents a substantial asset that can help to combat climate change, secure energy supply, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. BLUEGIFT is helping Atlantic Area companies test the next generation of MRE technology in real sea environments and prove power can be economically generated from the ocean. The test sites involved provide a range of marine energy resource types at their facilities. Access to test sites to perform tests and validation was granted through a series of competitive calls. BLUEGIFT will deliver at least 8 technology demonstrations of floating wind, wave, tidal or solar technologies, resulting into over 24,000 hours of operations, work with over 20 SME’s, sustaining 30+ jobs and helping to leverage 15 million euros of investment into MRE companies. To complement technology being tested in real sea conditions, the project is also focussing on increasing technical collaboration. The Optimisation work package will collaborate with developers to ensure methodologies are consistent for test planning and verification. In order to benefit developers and the entire community in the medium to long term, BLUEGIFT partners agreed to specify and implement a joint R&D programme. The objective is to improve knowledge, methods, and tools to support MRE sea trials in the Atlantic Area. Each test site will hold the test results for at least three years past project close, supporting long-term impact and spin off research where appropriate. Furthermore, the project foresees a series of strategic capitalisation tasks aimed at the long term roll out of MRE technology across all the Atlantic regions. Expected Results (EN):

Blue-GIFT will help coordinate efforts to overcome one of the biggest engineering obstacles to these targets at a transnational level by using European support to reduce technical risk and improve investability. The outputs delivered by the demonstration activities will be made publicly available. This will ensure that the impact of the project will continue beyond its active lifetime, by producing resources that will be useful for ocean energy developers well into the future. Additionally, the scientific and research paper outputs will inform the continuing work carried out at all research institute partners. Project success will also help the industrial partners create growth and jobs for the Atlantic Area. Through engagement with key decision-makers, the partners will work to create a political environment that will encourage the MRE industry to make best use of the project’s outputs.

Expected Outputs (EN):

• The Technology Development Work Package, which will run 3 competitive calls for test site access. • Deliver a minimum of 8 technology demonstrations lasting six to twelve months which will deliver over 24,000 hours of operational data. • Capitalise on the testing expertise within EMEC, SEMREV and SmartBay to support the INTERREG AA sites at PLOCAN, BiMEP, SEENEOH and WaVEC. • Developing longer support for the technologies tested to breakthrough into the market, including the development of an MRE focused roadmap for the Atlantic Area along with a transnational MRE infrastructure plan.
