The project “INCREASE TRADING AND MODERNIZATION OF THE BEEKEEPING AND CONNECTED SECTORS IN THE BLACK SEA BASIN” aims to develop and modernize apicultural businesses and also promote and develop trade and partnership in the Black Sea Basin. The project focuses on the progressive and active promotion and monitoring of the partnership network of target sub-groups of beekeepers in the Black Sea Basin (Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Ukraine, Republic of Moldavia) with a role in identifying and implementing tools to increase their chances of significant acceleration in improving the conditions of production, increasing the quality of bee products and ensuring marketing to create safe cross-border trade opportunities and business development with input in modernizing the beekeeping sector and related sectors. The project';s specific objectives are: 1. Creating and developing a common framework for the establishment and operation of the Black Sea Basin Bee Products Network with a role in promoting and monitoring it for increasing cross-border trade opportunities and modernizing the beekeeping sector and related activities. 2. Stimulate the growth of the competitiveness and viability of the beekeeping sector and related activities through the implementation of actions at the Black Sea Business Network to improve the skills and knowledge of apiculture producers as well as their economic performance and market access. 3. Ensuring the visibility of beekeepers, the potential of the Black Sea Basin area and public awareness of the properties of apicultural products on health and increasing food safety by organizing events of an economic, cultural, educational, political nature, etc. The project will have clear multiplier effects, translated into a practical plan through medium and long term, direct and implicit results that will ensure the continuation, recovery and mainstreaming of project results after its completion. Information added on 2020-05-26, regarding the mitigation of the effects of COVID-19 (the coronavirus pandemic that started in 2019) (English language only): The project ITM BEE-BSB supports the networking among apicultural producers in improving the conditions of production, increasing the quality of bee products, promoting their products and boosting cross-border trade opportunities as well as modernizing the beekeeping sector and related activities.

Achievements (EN):

The project focused on the active promotion and monitoring of the partnership network of target sub-groups of beekeepers in the Black Sea Basin, with a role in identifying and implementing tools to increase their chances of improving the conditions of production, increasing the quality of bee products and ensuring marketing to create safe cross-border trade opportunities and business development with input in modernising the beekeeping sector and related sectors. Within the project, the Black Sea Basin Network of Honey Producers and other Bee Products was developed, with 358 beekeepers being registered in the network database. An online Portal for Honey Producers and other Bee Products was created and can be accessed at the following link: http://www.beekeeping-bsb.net/. The portal also contains a map, more specifically, a web-GIS application presenting a map of forest areas in Tulcea and Braila counties in Romania that contain melliferous tree species (linden, acacia and willow), so that beekeepers can choose the most convenient locations for harvesting. Within the project, professional training courses for beekeepers have been organised, with 567 persons graduating it, out of which 179 taking part in the field training. A “Guide to Melliferous Potential, Climatic Conditions, Air and Soil Quality in the Black Sea Basin Region” was elaborated, as well as a “Good practice guide” and a marketing strategy, all aiming at developing and modernising apicultural businesses in the Black Sea Basin. Furthermore, four demonstrative lessons were posted on the online portal, reproducing one stage of the beekeeping process. The visibility of apiculture producers was increased by means of the events organised by the project partners: - International fair of Honey and Apiculture Products of Varna; - International Honey, Tea and traditional local products in Galati; - International Beekeeping Conference in Ordu, as well as through awareness campaigns.

Expected Results (EN): R 1.2 Strength of cross-border links for trade and modernisation in the agricultural and connected sectors

Expected Outputs (EN):

The project proposes to address a set of needs identified as priorities directly related to increasing the competitiveness and viability of beekeeping activities, especially in rural areas, and trade through: - Launch on the competitive market of an integrated entrepreneurship model of the Black Sea Basin beekeeping privat sector with the potential to continuously update their own strategies to respond as quickly as possible to the competitive system. These objectives are achievable through training, dissemination of information and knowledge, exchange of good practice, etc. - Creation of a database made available through the established website (fully accessible to each associative beekeeping entity in partner countries during the implementation of the project, partially accessible to potential players on the external and domestic commercial market and partially accessible to the general public after completion of the project). - The existence of a technical secretariat with its headquarters in Galati and its subsidiaries in the partner countries. - The existence of already trained members on the issues of the project objectives that have provided in-house counseling / advice and assistance. - A marketing and trading strategy. - Launching a high and diversified production (generally or a certain floral element) on the market to better meet the quality standards imposed as a result of the continuous preparation of apiculture producers and of digital mapping offered by the potential of space. - Implementation of the idea of organizing the International Fair in the Black Sea Basin and ensuring its continuity through the Technic Secretariat; - Implementation the idea of organizing a festival and ensuring its continuity through the technical secretariat in order to raise awareness of the beneficial effects of melliferous plants and apicultural products. - Increased international visibility for the entire Black Sea Basin through the organization of apicultural fairs.
