This project bring together organization from Satu Mare and Nyregyhaza, working with children from marginalized Roma communities facing similar problems in term of marginalization and discrimination and it enhances joint organizational capacity to develop innovative solutions. The created partnership develops social inclusion opportunities of vulnerable children in the cross-border area using chess both as a personal development tool and a mean to create positive interaction opportunities with other community members to sustain social inclusion and reduce discrimination.The project’s overall objective is to intensify sustainable cross-border cooperation of the communities in Satu Mare and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg through developing innovative solutions to common problems of social inclusion of marginalized communities, contributing to more active cross-border cooperation of various institutions and citizens.The project contributes to the programme priority specific objective SO11 (Intensify sustainable cross-border cooperation of institutions and communities) by involving social experts from two NGOs in Satu Mare and chess specialists from a non-governmental organization in Nyiregyhaza in a collaborative process aiming to jointly build and implement an innovative life-skills development program for children using as a central element the potential of chess. Around it, a series of joint activities (training and common chess competitions, cultural activities, camp, workshops, conference) and the cross-border chess competitions will strengthen citizen cooperation in the region.Through this project, representatives from 3 NGOs in the cross-border area will develop skills for teaching chess techniques and building life skills development programs using chess as a central activity. 80 vulnerable people will benefit from an innovative social service built within this project, achieving measurable results of personal and life skills development and raising their self-esteem. The project will build an innovative social service model with great potential for replication to be promoted on a large scale. This will be a real tool for increasing self-esteem and for life skills developing of children from vulnerable groups. The project promotes equal opportunities fights against discrimination, offering opportunities to reduce the life skills development gaps that exists between children in difficulty and other children from the cross-border area, supporting their inclusion and access to development opportunities.The innovation that this project brings include:- Using the huge development potential of chess on children as a central element on which a social intervention program is built on, increasing self-esteem and supporting the social inclusion of children from marginalized communities- Creating cross-border partnership between social services providing NGO’s and chess organizations, putting together their knowledge, skills and experience to tackle common challenges within their local communities: inequity in development opportunities between children living in Roma marginalized communities and other children and also, severe discrimination problems, that hider social inclusion chances of these children.- Creating concrete opportunities for positive interactions through sport among community members and vulnerable people, thus contributing to changing mentality anchored in negative stereotypes about people from marginalized communities and especially about Roma.

Achievements (EN):

Achieved: 1) Transferred know-how from the Hungarian partner to the Romanian ones in the field of teaching chess to children through a 5 day chess teaching training program for 12 participants organized in Hungary and printed manuals containing the training program guidelines. 2) Transferred know-how from the Romanian partners to the Hungarian one in the field of life skill development programs through a 5 day training program for 12 participants organized in Romania and printed guides containing the methodology, the service delivery plan and working tools. 3) 3 arranged chess-rooms (1 at each partner) with proper equipment and tools (chess sets, chess pieces + board /sheet +watch, mobile interactive whiteboard). 4) „Life Skills Development Program through Chess" - a newly built social service package containing the methodology, the service delivery plan and working tools (realized guide; guidelines presented to social organizations during the closing conference; guidelines can be adapted to the level of each organization according to the specific needs of target groups). 5) 100 children involved in chess activities within the partners' centres (50 children from Romania and 50 children from Hungary; 70% of these children were coming from vulnerable backgrounds; 6) 4 joint chess competitions (2 in Romania and 2 in Hungary) for the above-mentioned children involved in project activities 7) 5-day chess camp organized in Romania with 50 participants (25 from Romania and 25 from Hungary) , The activities involving children were implemented to create concrete opportunities for positive interactions through sport among community members and vulnerable people, thus contributing to changing mentality anchored in negative stereotypes about people from marginalized communities. The project promoted equal opportunities fights against discrimination, offering opportunities to reduce the life skills development gaps that exists between children in difficulty and other children from the cross-border area, supporting their inclusion and access to development opportunities. Finalized: 1) Training for the partners personnel and volunteers in teaching chess; 2) Training for the partners personnel and volunteers in life skill development programs 3) Building the innovative guide "Life skills development program through chess”; 4) Chess-themed life skills development activities with children (within partners' centres and joint chess camp and chess competitions).

Expected Results (EN): R11/b Intensity level of cross-border cooperation

Expected Outputs (EN):

The projects main results are: - 4 joint meetings of the 3 project partners for development of chess-based life-skills development program. These meeting will enable partners to exchange experience and good practices and to build jointly solutions to enhance social inclusion of children in marginalized communities - Joint capacity development of the partner NGOs in tackling social inclusion problems in cross-border area, through training of 12 of their professionals and volunteers (6 from Romania and 6 form Hungary) in teaching chess to children and designing children’s life-skill development program; - 5 joint small-scale cooperation events in the fields of sport, culture and leisure (joint chess training for children from partner institutions and organizations, small-scale chess competition, chess camp and international chess competition) enabeling life-skills development of 100 children from targeted communities (50 from Romania and 50 from Hungary) - A guide, "Life-skills Development Program through Chess" elaborated jointly by project partners promoting innovation built within this partnership. - 2 chess rooms arranged, one in each target locality (Satu Mare and Nyiregyhaza) - 40 representatives of stakeholders in the cross-border area informed about innovation built within this partnership. These results create sustainable networks and cooperation between partners form the cross-border area.
