The Lech originates in the Lechquell Mountains in Vorarlberg and flows into the Danube after 256 km near Marxheim. Although this is only a tributary of the Danube, the Lech occupies a special position. There are only a few rivers in this category to which there is as much literature as about the Lech. Although mainly used for energy purposes in Bavaria, Lech has many protected areas (FFH sites, bird sanctuaries, Natura 2000 areas, landscape conservation areas). These form an important biotope network and at the same time have a high potential for natural experiences. On the Austrian side, the Lech has to a large extent the character of a wild river with extensive gravel banks. In recent years, the river has also undergone significant ecological revaluation through restoration and flood protection projects. Despite these potentials, there are still no tourist offers for cyclists along the entire river, which make the natural and cultural peculiarities of this river landscape experience and experience. The existing Lech cycle path on the Tyrolean side is far too short for this. The project aims to create a continuous Lech cycle path from Steeg (upper course of the Lech in the Tyrolean Lechtal) to the mouth of the Danube. With the help of these nature-related tourism and leisure activities at Lech, an extension of the season is to be achieved. A cross-border innovation partnership aims to set standards for e-mobility, digitalisation (digital travel assistant via big data technologies, artificial intelligence) and accessibility (hand bike suitability, development of audio tours for people with visual disabilities). The aim of the project is to create an overall tourist offer that contributes to regional development and nature experience. Especially through new media, ecological connections can be experienced in an innovative way.

Der Lech entspringt im Lechquellgebirge in Vorarlberg und mündet nach 256 km bei Marxheim in die Donau. Obwohl es sich hierbei nur um einen Zufluss der Donau handelt, nimmt der Lech eine Sonderstellung ein. Es gibt nur wenige Flüsse dieser Kategorie zu denen es derart viel Literatur gibt wie über den Lech. Obwohl insb. in Bayern intensiv energiewirtschaftlich genutzt, befinden sich am Lech viele Schutzgebiete (FFH-Gebiete, Vogelschutzgebiete, Natura 2000 Gebiete, Landschaftsschutzgebiete). Diese formen einen wichtigen Biotopverbund und verfügen gleichzeitig über ein hohes Potenzial für naturnahe Erlebnisse. Auf österreichischer Seite hat der Lech sogar noch weitgehend den Charakter eines Wildflusses mit ausgedehnten Schotterbänken. In den letzten Jahren erfuhr der Fluss zudem eine deutliche ökologische Aufwertung durch Renaturierungs- und Hochwasserschutzprojekte. Trotz dieser Potenziale gibt es noch keine touristischen Angeboten für Radfahrer entlang des gesamten Flusses, welche die naturkundlichen und kulturellen Besonderheiten dieser Flusslandschaft erfahr- und erlebbar machen. Der bestehende Lechradweg auf Tiroler Seite ist hierfür viel zu kurz. Das Projekt zielt auf die Schaffung eines durchgängigen Lechradwegs von Steeg (Oberlauf des Lech im Tiroler Lechtal) bis zur Mündung in die Donau. Mithilfe dieser naturnahen Tourismus- und Freizeitangebots am Lech soll eine Ausdehnung der Saison erreicht werden. Über eine grenzüberschreitende Innovationspartnerschaft sollen Maßstäbe bei E-Mobilität, Digitalisierung (digitaler Reiseassistent über Big-Data-Technologien, Künstlicher Intelligenz) und Barrierefreiheit (Handbike-Tauglichkeit, Entwicklung von Audio-Touren für Menschen mit Sehbehinderungen) gesetzt werden. Das Ziel des Projekts besteht darin, ein gesamthaftes touristisches Angebot zu schaffen, das einen Beitrag zur regionalen Entwicklung und Naturerfahrung leistet. Gerade durch Neue Medien werden ökologische Zusammenhänge auf innnovative Weise erfahrbar.

Expected Results (DE): EI 3 - Anteil der Gästenächtigungen in der Nebensaison an den Gesamtnächtigungen eines Jahres (%)

Expected Outputs (DE): Das Projekt dient der nachhaltigen grenzüberschreitenden Tourismusentwicklung basierend auf einer innovativen und regionsangepassten Inwertsetzung des Natur- und Kulturerbes. Dabei steht insb. die Stärkung der schwachen Saison bzw. Nebensaison im Fokus.
