Biolearn project stresses the main pollution problems threating very important biodiversity sites of the BSB, namely its wetlands. The project partnership is established by 6 partners - public institutions, environmental NGOs and national park bodies from 5 different countries, responsible for management, promotion and protection of the valuable nature of the Black Sea Basin. They joint their efforts, combine resources and knowledge for realization of common activities aiming attracting the attention of the local communities and the visitors / tourists to the negative results that their unconscious daily activities have to the local eco-system relating to the pollution of the waters trough using of illegal dumping areas placed in watercourses, abandonment of old torn nets in watersheds, reckless use of plastic bags or unregulated disposing of agricultural, chemical and fishing equipment to the territory of these very important wetlands. In the frame of 26 months the project partners will realize together the symmetrical activities relating to the achievement of the main objective: Establishment sustainable links and improvement of co - operation between regional and subnational partners with aim jointly coordination of environmental protection, increasing local awareness and reduction of the pollutions in important wetlands of BSB. Through implementation of the following activities the partners will ensure achievement of the above mentioned aim for coordination activities and reduction of the pollution in very important targeted BSB's wetlands: - Exchange of knowledge and experience and capacity building activities between project partners and interested institutions. Investment activities relating with establishment of a Network from “Stop Litter” and “Save Nature” activity centers working under the common environmental - educational approach and methodology. - Realization of public awareness activities and educational programs for local target groups that will make them more sensitive about the pollution and the threats that they creates for the local eco-system with their environmental careless activities. - Realization of clean-up activities for decreasing the local pollution in the targeted areas. 10 activity centers - one mobile will take part in the Network and will be the pillars of the established transboundary integrated public awareness system for promotion of the issues relating with river borne and marine litter in BSB. BioLearn integrates the main valuable wetlands and biospheres of the BSB as Danube Biosphere Reserve, Black Sea Biosphere Reserve in UKR, Pomorie Wetland Complex- BG, the Delta of Merich/ Evros River with its both Greek and Turkish sides and Wetlands of Central Kolkheti and protected area in Tbilisi/Georgia. BioLearn will provide and evaluate mechanisms to enable society to perceive the impact of litter on the marine environment and will provide solutions that impact.

Achievements (EN):

The overall project objective was to establish sustainable links and to improve cooperation between regional and subnational partners, such as local institutions and non-governmental organisations, with the aim of jointly coordinating environmental protection, increasing local awareness and reducing pollution in important wetlands of the Black Sea Basin. The main achievements of the project are: - Preparation and publication of 12 educational booklets; - Manual on best practices on environmental education on awareness of litter pollution in wetlands and 12 educational series were realised (12 series for trainers and 12 series for students). - International workshops in Greece and Bulgaria; The aim was to train teachers from a larger number of schools in the region. - Environmental Education in Schools was held for 2 days in a total of 8 schools. A Contest was conducted, and winners from all partner countries were shown during the exhibitions between 17.02.2022 - 20.03.2022 in Turkey. In the exhibition, a 5-minute clip of the painting contest "I PROTECT BIO DIVERSITY FROM POLLUTANTS" was made among children in 5 countries. - Organization of environmental Clean-up Campaign "Clean Water and Clean Black Sea Basin Days"; - 10 Stop Litter and Save Nature activity centres were equipped with the needful training facilities and interactive learning materials; Investment works: - ‘Save Nature’ activity area in the National Park of Gala Lake, Enez / Edirne. In the frame of the project: an amphitheatre, pergola, blackboard and labyrinth were made, creating the Save Nature activity centre as a part of the networks of centres in the Black Sea Basin. 10 info boards were placed in the labyrinth made for the interactive education of the children. Also, one rotating stand with interactive design and information from the educational materials prepared in the frame of the project was placed at the open-air center in Lake Gala; - Establishment of Stop Litter activity centres in Ukraine; - Educational centre “Save Nature” and "Stop Litter" in Tbilisi. According to the action plan and memorandum of all project partners, the centre will continue the educational activities after finalising the project implementation period for the next 3 years.

Expected Results (EN): R 2.2 Level of awareness of environmental challenges and good waste management practices related to river and marine litter

Expected Outputs (EN):

- Increased awareness on environmental challenges of young generations through using different learning approaches as popularization of outdoor activities, realized in the established “Stop litter” activity centers of BSB Wetlands: elaborated and applied a Methodology for training of students and pupils on ecological issues. - Organized successful 5 environmental actions under the motto “Eco-Conscious Minds for Stop the marine litter and saving wet-biodiversity” and realized 5 awareness raising activities in the target wetlands of Black Sea Basin. - Developed small scale facilities along river banks – developed “Save nature” activity centers in protected areas for realization of outdoor awareness increasing activities - the lagoon Gala lake of Merich river Delta/ Turkey, Evros (Merich) River Delta in Greece and in Danube Biosphere Reserve and Black Sea Biosphere Reserve in Ukraine. - Established a Network – “Stop litter” activity centers of BSB wetlands, which presents interactive information for the polluters and the methods for their decreasing including methods for recycling the agricultural wastes of the households in home conditions. - Elaborated special Learning and Action series for children, students and other target groups on river-borne and marine litter damage to local biodiversity– plants, fish, birds etc. - Elaborated 3 yearly Action Plan of the developed “Save nature” and “Stop litter” activity centers and Signed Memorandum for partnership between project partners.
