Description (EN):

The Project aims at promoting, valorizing and protecting cultural heritage in the Adriatic-Ionian area. Its specific aim is to contribute to the enhancement and conservation of specific cultural properties, in particular books, and to make the digitized heritage accessible to a wider public in the project area of Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Albania, Greece and Serbia, through the creation of a network between operators of the cultural and tourism sectors and their training, through the digitization of selected collections, performed with common standards and methodologies and integrated on a common platform, and through the tourism promotion of the CH sites, by means of an Adrion tour. In this way, the projects will deal with the following common challenges: the need for cooperation between public and private sectors and between all sectors of cultural heritage, the lack of trained specialists in the field of sustainable CH tourism model, the necessity of a common strategy for digitization of cultural properties, statistical indicators shared in a systematic way, the lack of funds for training and professional travels, a serious aggregation of metadata, the absence of a recognizable tourism brand for Adrion CH collection; the necessity of knowledge of Europeana among the general public and the professionals and the need of knowledge among operators of opportunities offered by the agglomeration of digital CH resources. Therefore, outputs of the project will be the networking structure between operators of cultural and tourism sectors, digitization pilot actions and the increase in visitors of CH sites. As a consequence, the project will contribute to raising awareness on common heritage in the Adriatic-Ionian area as an orientation framework for individual actions, to the valorization of cultural heritage within an Adrion brand name as well as the enhancement of the “body of knowledge” through the digitization pilot actions.

Achievements (EN):

Main achievements: More than 8000 items digitized, 11 new touristic itineraries created, 4 public events realized. Core of the project The core of the Adrinetbook project was digitization. CH digitization allows, on the one hand, to create a digital version of the original object, which is unavoidably exposed to a degradation process, thus contributing to CH conservation. On the other, digitized objects reduce geographical distances and open up new frontiers for research and valorization of cultural properties, representing an asset for the CH promotion. Results from digitization were further exploited with the creation of new touristic itineraries based on the digitized CH. In this way, the digitized items become touristic assets, as well as vehicles for the promotion of the places that are hosting them, which are often beautiful libraries, and museums definitely worth a visit.

Expected Results (EN): Level of capacity for the stakeholders in the fields of natural and cultural heritage protection and tourism to sustainably valorise natural and cultural heritage as a growth asset

Expected Outputs (EN):

The project will strongly contribute to the achievement of program indicators, enhancing the capacity of cultural and touristic stakeholders to preserve and enhance Cultural Collections as growth assets. The main results to achieve are: - The creation of a network between operators: The digitization sector requires a plurality of highly specialized professionals (librarians, computer scientists, technicians, etc.) but also capable of collaborating. The network foreseen by the project is even more innovative because it also involves tourist operators so that the cultural resources do not remain hidden and available only for the insiders but can become an additional vehicle to promote the territories. Two teams will be created, one for cultural operators and one for tour operators and trade associations, sharing moments of exchange and collaboration. - The training of public operators, so that the trained personnel will be able to continue the activities started with the project having acquired the necessary technical skills that allow the selection of assets of interest, their exploitation, and networking in the tourist circuit. - Mainstreaming activities to form a new sensibility towards invisible or hidden assets (books but also libraries that often have architectural value in themselves) and greater attention by including them in the itineraries of visits. - Culture and tourism working together with teams that are no longer separated and that also includes tourist guides, buyers and all those in the sector. This result goes beyond the life of the project and creates a multiplier effect. - The tourism proposal intercepts a variegated but niche public and does not foresee mass events but an enhancement of goods spread over the territory and usually little known or even hidden. Therefore it is sustainable tourism, which doesn't impact strongly on the environment and is well inserted in the territories involved, favoring their development in a gentle way.
