Description (EN):

BLUEfasma integrates and implements Circular Economy(CE) principles in the key blue growth sector of fishing/aquaculture to benefit MED insular/coastal areas in a novel/innovative way. Project team tackles the transnational challenge of continual depletion of natural resources and the below-EU-average MED CE innovation performance in fishing/aquaculture. Its overall objective is to empower innovation capacity of SMEs, maritime clusters/networks, PAs to boost blue CE growth in insular/coastal areas. CE prevents depletion of resources by closing energy & materials loops, leading to smart/sustainable growth as a key MED joint asset. Currently PAs/SMEs are cautious to embrace CE practices, which PAs perceive as cumbersome & SMEs as non-profitable. BLUEfasma approach will change current thinking on circularity by:-replicating effective CE work (eg in efficient use of waste & by-products), mainly from North-EU&MED projects-testing the upgraded circularity self-assessment tool in 11 participating MED territories and monitoring business readiness/willingness to invest in R&I -organising Blue Living Labs & targeted transferring activities -shifting policy towards CE-systematizing funding opportunities for blue CE innovation business investmentMain outputs: -BLUEfasma online platform-Blue Living Labs-BLUEfasma Capacity Building Instrument-Capitalization eventsThe outputs will increase innovation capacity and transnational activities among blue actors of Inter. MED Community.

BLUEfasma implémente de manière novatrice les principes de l’Economie Circulaire(EC) dans le secteur clé de croissance bleue -pêche/aquaculture- au bénéfice des régions MED insulaires/maritimes.L’équipe-projet aborde le défi transnational de l’épuisement des ressources & déficit d’innovation en EC de peche/aquaculture en MED comparé aux standards européens.Son but est d’accroitre la capacité d’innovation des PME & PA, des réseaux et communautés maritimes/insulaires, afin de promouvoir l’EC dans ces régions.EC prévient l’épuisement des ressources en utilisant matériaux & énergie en boucles fermées:capitalisation des pratiques en MED mènerait a une croissance intelligente/durable.PA et PME ont aujourd’hui des préjugés freinant leurs pratiques d’EC –PA imaginent une lourdeur d’implémentation & PME une non-profitabilité. BLUEfasma déconstruira ces préjugés en:-reproduisant des approches efficaces d’EC pré-existantes (projets N.EU/MED)-testant outil avancé d’auto-évaluation en EC sur 11 MED pilotes & surveillant capacité/volonté des PME a investir en R&I -organisant Laboratoires Bleus Vivants & transférant leurs activités-remodellant politiques d’EC-systématisant opportunités de financement des investissements pour l’innovation en EC bleue Productions principales:e-plateforme BLUEfasma;Lab Bleus Vivants;Outil d’évaluation d’EC bleu BLUEfasma;Actions de mutualisation.Ces productions accroitront capacité d’innovation & dynamiques transnationales au sein de communauté MED.

Achievements (EN):

BLUEfasma’s progress in the 5th reporting period was satisfactory to the greatest extent, since the activities/deliverables were carried out according to the set time plan. Also the extended deadline for some activities/deliverables (as voted by the Steering Committee) was respected. The close cooperation between partners (PPs) was effective and led to the successful achievement of all project objectives. For the proper project coordination and internal communication between PPs meetings took place, and tracking and internal evaluation reports were performed periodically. In addition, external communication and capitalizing activities were carried out. Concerning WP1, LP & PPs implemented the necessary administrative/financial activities ensuring the on-time 4th and 5th Payment Claims submission. The external expert hired by LP submitted the Project Assessment Report. In WP2, PPs updated the Communication Plan; published the 5th e-newsletter; developed additional promotional material; organized open day events and participated in 4 events organised by Interreg MED HPs & 5 external events. PPs updated BLUEfasma website & social media regularly. In WP5, PPs updated the Capitalisation (CAP) Plan and organized 9 National & 2 Transnational CAP events in Barcelona and Budva, plus 1 CAP event for South Mediterranean countries in Cairo bridging the two shores of the Mediterranean towards Circular Economy and expanding project’s area of intervention in these countries; successfully achieving project’s output 5.2 and promoting project achievements to a higher political level. 4 Thematic Working Group meetings took place focusing on the mainstreaming of BLUEfasma results and ensuring the effective implementation of WP5 deliverables. PPs worked on the development of the roadmap for wider uptake of BLUEfasma online platform, the policy recommendations, and transferring CE readiness index in other sectors; developed the capacity building instrument which is available on the BLUEfasma online platform contributing in project’s output 5.1 achievement; upgraded the circularity self-assessment tool in local languages & Arabic. The development of the Letter of Commitment signed by 26 entities committing in policy shift towards Circular Economy in fishing/aquaculture, and the Agreement signed by 43 entities committing for following up project results after the end of the BLUEfasma project are highlighted. PPs participated in lobbying events and had close cooperation with HPs.
