The Posbemed 2 project will gather for the first time the key stakeholders involved in coastal management across the Mediterranean to work together in testing actions for a sustainable management of Posidonia landscape and beaches with Posidonia banquettes in Protected Areas(PAs).In many Mediterranean countries the management of beaches with banquettes is entrusted to regional and local governments.Often,beaches are an integral part of the tourist appeal and previous assessments on stakeholders’ views and management practices, make clear the need to promote better management of this littoral landscape on beaches.Enhanced support for more naturally-oriented practices from tourist sector or local authorities could be further increased with more capacity and knowledge of management options and policies for PAs.This project is based on the findings of the project Posbemed,developed within the past Interreg Med call with the aim of defining a joint strategy for the sustainable management of the beaches with banquettes.The objective of Posbemed 2 is to catalyse its results “to manage the Mediterranean coastline by developing planning strategies that recognize the value of the Posidonia beach-dune environment and integrate them into the overall coastal strategy,while also addressing concerns and educating stakeholders”.It further addresses key knowledge gaps,providing information that will enhance management decisions on adaptation,policies,planning and promotion in PAs.

Posbemed2 réunit les acteurs impliqués dans la gestion des côtes méditerranéennes,afin de tester des actions visant à une gestion durable du paysage et des plages avec des banquettes de Posidonie dans des aires protégées(AP).Dans les pays méditerranéens,la gestion des plages avec banquettes est confiée souvent aux gouvernements régionaux et locaux.De précédentes études montrent la nécessité de promouvoir une meilleure gestion des paysages littoraux abritant des banquettes.Le développement de pratiques de gestion plus naturelles des plages avec banquettes pourrait être renforcé,en améliorant les compétences et les connaissances du gestion et de politiques liés aux AP des acteurs du secteur touristique ou des autorités locales.Posbemed2 est basé sur les conclusions du projet Posbemed qui a défini une stratégie commune pour la gestion durable des plages avec des banquettes.L’objectif est de catalyser ces résultats,»pour gérer le littoral méditerranéen en développant des stratégies de planification qui reconnaissent la valeur environnementale des plages-dunes de Posidonie,et qui les intègrent dans une stratégie côtière plus globale tout en répondant aux préoccupations des parties prenantes et en leurs transmettant les bonnes pratiques de gestion».Ce second volet aborde aussi la question des principales lacunes de connaissances,pour améliorer les décisions en matière d'adaptation,de politiques,de planification pour la gestion et la promotion des banquettes dans les AP.

Achievements (EN):

Covid-19 and the subsequent restrictions implemented at national and international levels caused some activities to be postponed or rearranged in format. For different WPs and WP3 in particular, the restrictions caused a delay in the implementation of activities and therefore extended the timeline needed for developing a framework action plan. However, although slowed down, the activities never stopped, contributing to the gradual achievement of the objectives, even if to a minor degree. No output was expected to be completed in these two semesters.PPs started to:- contact decision makers, MPAs and relevant stakeholders in order to discuss about project content and objectives and share strategies for future actions to be implemented and that best maintain good environmental conservation status in protected areas and reduce the impacts of management- increase awareness of stakeholders to enhance their understanding of the value of Posidonia coastal/marine landscapes mainly through social media, POSBEMED2 web site and press- share experiences with other EU projects and programs, different actors, decision makers, relevant stakeholders and the private sector as well in order to provide better integration of different points of view in the future planning tools to be incorporated into management planning and coastal policies where the Posidonia littoral zone occurs, across the Mediterranean.In this way, Posbemed 2 has already started to enable different actors to address a common challenge, to promote better management of the Posidonia littoral landscape by enhancing the value of natural beaches for sustainable tourism and local development, while ensuring high level conservation of priority sites (PAs).
